Na, I was just being silly coz you said the marines had "charged in everywhere since their inception". At their inception they were on ships exclusively, yes?......
Don't worry i'm just being overly pedantic.
I honestly appreciate you giving me that info though.
But yeah, everyone know the U.S navy has 'air assets' too...

2) The Marines are part of the Navy. They have historically charged in everywhere since their inception
@Pkay or anyone who can answer: Sorry, I must have phrased the about question poorly (it's now neither here nor there since we both agree the picture is a fake) but what I was driving at is do all sections of the U.S armed forces wear the flag that way round?
And, just to extra specially pedantic, how does one 'charge' on a ship? :P
Our navy is not simply bound to the sea... as i mentioned marines (part of the navy) perform a large portion of our ground based actions. Navy also have air assets as well.

But I guess to help make sense of it... ship bound navy do not wear BDU's so someone on a boat would never have that on their person. Same as when I was in the air force I did not have it on my flight line suit until I was forward deployed or unless i was put in a role where I was off the flightline and no longer in a support capacity. You don't wear that unless you're going to battle.

Stateside army, air force, marines, navy do not wear that flag for that reason.
Pkay what the fuck are you doing? You know you can't expect people on this forum to have actual background information about the shit they're talking about. Tsk tsk.

On the contrary, I was using the information that he'd supplied.

I suspect Bin Laden's use-by-date was up with Pakistani intelligence
or he wasn't getting enough access to the family fortune to ensure his protection.
He was probably so ill, that it was just a matter of time anyway, so no loss to his supporters
That's not conspiracy theory, just understandable cynicism.

Dumping him at sea was an intelligent move imo...no martyr's tombs.
According to some analysis, Al Qeda's influence is waning.
I hope so....I hope that agitation/rebellion/revolt in the Arab nations is more about throwing off suppression
than specifically implementing archaic laws & theocratic rule.

More controversially,
I believe that Bin Laden was an idealist
acting against the hypocritical Saudi regime & western economic exploitation.
However, his privileged upbringing had him rely upon a resentful, intellectual elite
and he was careless of the impact his actions had on working Arabs,
causing the death & maiming of many of his fellow muslims by taking the extremist path.
The favourable side of his legacy imo
is that we who have benefitted, mindlessly,
from historic commercial/political exploitation of Arab resources and corruptibility,
have had to confront our consciences about it's impact on middle-eastern people.

Ultimately
buildings had to be destroyed and lives lost
for us to wake up to our obligation to treat fellow human beings equitably,
whatever their percieved vulnerability, weaknesses or conditioning.

How many more buildings and bodies,
murders, atrocities and frustrated terrorists
will it take for all to be treated with respect?

i really don't see any change in consciousness at all. a good portion of americans would like to see the middle east wiped out completely. "why don't we just nuke the place, haha," as a few people have joked to me. the americans who are truly concerned about the welfare of middle eastern people (and could see past the making it safe for democracy PR) were probably against the wars all along. if anything, more americans who had no opinion on middle easterners have turned against them because of the massive amount of propaganda.

our current young generation (gen Y and some of gen X), has a lot to work on morally before any peace can be made. they (most of us) are all so selfish. i run into this "if it doesn't affect me, who cares" attitude constantly. they don't trust the system, are apathetic, underpowered, and swimming in propaganda.

So, they might not release the picture evidence.... Their reason being that the gruesome nature of the pictures may be 'inflammatory'....

There was NO live video feed that Obama watched.

OBL was not armed.

I don't really need to see the pictures, think it would be inflammatory.

If he was still alive you can be pretty sure he'd be recording a video to prove it and embarrass the US.

If he isn't an American agent.
Or so the argument would go.

Yeah I guess there is that. Or that he could have been dead for ages (in which case a photo could still have just been taken ages ago).

this isn't call of duty. You don't wear camera material in operations like this.... and there wasn't some cheeky reporter imbeded with an elite seal team.

it was a kill or capture mission. Kill or capture missions basically go "if you feel your life is in danger kill" given the nature of OBL it's not crazy to think perhaps he had explosives rigged in the house or was possibly going to destroy intel. In that scenario, the intel is far more valuable than having OBL alive.

They will release the OBL pictures. It's been 3 days. Common sense says they'll milk this a bit. Relax

Your such a ray of sunshine, Pkay.
The point was that it had been previously reported that Obama watched the raid in real time and that OBL was shot dead in a firefight. Both of these thing have been found to be false.
If you read my previous post again with a mono-tone inner monologue, then you'll have more insight into how much emotion I have invested in it. It's just the facts buddy, or at least what the news says are facts.
