Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
Drag the groove to the midi clip in your channel.
You'll see it on the farthermost left next to the piano roll. And you can either apply it so it can be seen in the piano roll or leave it as it.

if you want to actually get a decent sound, operator sucks. operator is an fm synth so basically the only thing you're going to be able to get is a really muddy signal. i would invest in massive or albino if i were you.raunstaaa wrote:Hey all, I've been messing around on Ableton for a while, but still not sure how to make a 'dirty' sound for bass and wobbles. Do you have to use Operator?

Completely NOT true. Operator can make some really nasty, dirty, growly and whatever-you-want-it-to sounds.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
When using Beat Repeat, is it possible to pause the track you're sampling from while stuff is repeating? I want the song to pick up where it left off, after the loop or whenever I let my finger off the button.

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
Hey guys, this thread is great. Ive been wondering if its possible to have say, two instances of massive open, and control both of them with midi? I thought maybe that could give for some nice stereo growls/melodies.
Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
not sure if you can arm two tracks to record simultaneously (im sure that you probably can), but otherwise you can just copy the midi over on to your second instance of massive to achieve the same thingNickelwound wrote:Hey guys, this thread is great. Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
you can create one midi track and have the midi information piped to the 2 instances of massive, read up on routing in the manual. other option is to have both instances in an instrument rack together.
the instrument rack option is definitely easier, i'm still not 100% on routing in ableton. something i should probably read up on myself.

Hey guys, thanks for informing me on those options. Damn, the instrument rack thing really is an easy solution, I will look routing up though; seems interesting :]

Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
yeah routing is definitely worth learning properly, i've kinda skipped learning it because of the group tracks function has meant i haven't really needed to use it.Nickelwound wrote:Hey guys, thanks for informing me on those options. worth playing about with the racks too, so much functionality built into them.
Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
hold ctrl and click the arm track button on each MIDI track. Then you can play and record whatever you want and it'll record the same notes for both MIDI tracks, although you could just copy it over. also works for audio tracks which is a lot more useful IMOjyro wrote:not sure if you can arm two tracks to record simultaneously (im sure that you probably can), but otherwise you can just copy the midi over on to your second instance of massive to achieve the same thingNickelwound wrote:Hey guys, this thread is great. you can use ctrl like that to solo more than one track too.skwiggo wrote:hold ctrl and click the arm track button on each MIDI track. Re: The Ableton Q&A Thread
You can also set it in your preferences so you can arm/solo as many tracks as you like without needing to press ctrl. Under record/launch/warp in preferences, uncheck 'exclusive solo & arm'

Yeah I tried all of this mate, really weird!symmetricalsounds wrote:and what happened?Ascian wrote:Yeah I had tried that before..symmetricalsounds wrote:try turning that channel off and see if it exports properly, i know that doesn't solve the problem but at least would know for sure if it's that channel that is the root of the issue.
it did export fine or it didn't?
you say you remade the synth, did you try just saving the settings before as a preset and then bringing that back into the project?
no worries that you got it sorted through another path but i am kinda curious as to what the issue was, not something i've seen before.
It's not a pirated version of Massive (synth I used) either.. First and only time it's ever happened!
I brought up a tune I'm working on the other day and it had randomally frozen a track too hmm! Ahh well, it's all sorted
