@ jlproductions: really liking the groove to bandwidth when is drops. the switch up comes at the right time aswell, just when i was thinking it was getting a little bit repetitive. but i really like the groove in the drums and percussion, may i suggest some little fills every 8th or 16th bar just to spice things up. i like the intro to freq of nature but not really a fan of that wobbly synth when it drops. i'm only listening on shitty headphones at the moment but i think that wobble is also a bit too loud when it drops, overpowers the drums

@ elliotm: nice fusion between dubstep and funky in the intro to drifing. liking that drop and the way you've cut up the vocal samples aswell. nice and bouncy and a smooth summery melody, good tune. can't really say anything on ur mixdown as i'm on headphones but it sounds good to me. as for your other tune (spring), i like the intro but to me, that synth sort of ruins the whole vibe of the tune when it drops. i think your percussion is a tad on the quiet side too.

@ amphibian: nice tune, liking the deep melow vibe. i just feel it sounds slightly empty when the vocal sample drops out. also, your kicks sound very weak on my headphones. also, try vary up your drums and percussion cos it does tend to get a little repetitive with the same loop goin for 4 mins. not saying major changes but add a new hit here and there. i like the melodies tho

@ alexvont112: on the intro to advanced arrival, i think you've overdone the compression, the whole song dips in volume when the kicks and snares hit, unless you've intentionally used sidechaining to get that effect. its nice tho, just need to sort out the mix

@ mistayif
Like the drums! Very nice, chilled tune. I would bring am little bit more action in it. But in a way, which fits to the sounds, you already have.

@ oprs
Mmh, sorry, dunno why, but i don't like it. The idea is cool, but the tune seems a bit boring to me. It's like I am asking myself the whole time when it begins :D
But probably it's just because i don't like minimalistic stuff like that.

@ thelmbrjck

The kick needs more punch. And I would like it better if the wobble would be modulated more interesting. Perhaps you could add a second wobble, which brings a contrast to the first one, to make the tune sound more interesting.

Here something new I started, untill now it's completely unmixed:

@ tripwire: absolutely loving that subbass in the further. how are you gettin them to be so phat yet still audible? is it just a sine wave? the track is good aswell not really much i can fault in it

@theelmbrjk: i don't really like these wobbly tunes but i'll give u some feedback anyway. the drop the pressure vocal samples in the intro go in and out of time and need some timestretching to they staay in time. i think your bass is too heavy after the drop but that may be because of these headphones that i'm listening on. you got some nice drum sounds but maybe vary the pattern slightly here and there

@ norcodubstep: (in progress) really like that intro, sick melodies in there. that arepegiated sound after the drop is very nice, in fact, the whole bit after the drop reminds me of flux pavillion. i like the dropped out little section after like 4 bars too. the drums are a tad low in the drop tho i thought

@ infestedpasta: i like the tune but i don't know whats up with the mix. can't really explain it but sounds very wierd

@ sera: cheers mate, wasn't really looking for feedback on that tune but thanks anyway. i'm not sure if i even like it anymore now. i like the intro to your tune but unfortunately i'm not really into these wobbly tunes these days so the drop doesn't really do it for me, i think that synth that comes in at about 2:07 is slightly too loud tho

right, after giving all that feedback, i think its time to receive some

i'm still not too sure about the mixdown in this one, let me know how its sounding on your system and what can be done to improve it

Soundcloud

this one i've almost completed, but i've listened to it so much that i don't really have any ideas what to do with it anymore, i need to build up that breakdown.
everytime i listen through, i get the feeling that its a bit repetitive and boring even though i do introduce a new element every couple bars, let me know what you think

Soundcloud

also, feel free to leave feedback on the tune in my sig

Here's my WIP.. Thought I'd try my hand at Drumstep after my ventures in Jazz, Hard Trance and Crunked out Hip Hop over the last few weeks.

Spent about 5 hours on this so far and still needs things like a riser before the drop. Am looking for feedback on arrangement and the overall sound!

Cheers

(it is pretty much unmixed btw)
Soundcloud

@ thelmbrjck - Made me laugh when I realised what sample it is! Love it... Good build, one thing so far is that the build has loads of energy and then it loses it after the drop.. That may be what you're going for but I think it needs to be less dramatic to get the right effect. Like that bass and the midrange noises laid over it. IMO it's a little repetitive, you maybe need to use the same kind of bass but with a different sound somewhere and some more incidentals. That lead sound is also hitting too hard around the 5k mark.. Maybe lower the highs and add some subtle effects to make it sit back in the mix a little. I like your builds! Overall, I think you've got a good tune coming on here!

@ Driptide - Like this from the offset.. Nice white noise / wave noises in the back and that lead is sick. Needs nothing else so far. Bass change up fits perfectly. Maybe some subtle panning on the lead sound.. It may sound good if the lead sound was dropped out or faded out slowly when the arpeggio comes in. At 1min 50 it could definitely drop out for some kind of breakdown. Loving it though! Keep me updated on when it's done.

@ NorCoDubstep - Love it from the offset.. Perfect mix and use of effects. Actually, pretty blown away with this mate! Looking forward to what's coming next in the song, oh here it is! Loses some energy but is building nicely... Oooohhhhh still building oohhhhhhhhh... BOOOOOOMMMMMM!!!!
And that is all I have to say "BOOOOOMMMMMM!!" Great job.

@ oprs - I really like it after the drop, it's put together very well and that wood knocking sound panned left is very nice.. Before the drop it needs so sort of atmospherics imo or maybe a separate lead... Something to distinguish it more from the drop

@ sera1 - Loving the chords in the intro - Yeah right it's unmixed! haha, those drums are BOOOMING. Well EQ'd though and I love the subtle sub bass, has a very nice sound to it. I would definitely keep the sub bass low and background like that in the mixing process. The beat has a very nice skip to it and the arpeggios that come in are very nice.. Dropping away now and building slowly - VERY well executed.. Maybe needs a very subtle pad around the 300 - 550Hz ISH area. HAH!! Great sample! What is it saying? Drop is nice and the beat is great.. One thing is that between 1min 45 and 1min 47 where a lot of the elements drop away, I think you need to get rid of the hats.. Will make it a lot heavier. GREAT start mate and looking forward to watching this one come along!

@ mistayif - I had already posted my feedback but edited this in as I love your tune "Funky Ting" so much.. Really the only criticism I have up until 1min 19 is that the riser just before the drop is kind of "blatant" if you know what I meant.. Needs a really short decaying verb or something to make it sit in the mix.. May made a little more mono and then given a very short L/R delay to give it a little natural stereo width. I feel maybe the second drop needs some sort of bassline, something saw toothy but very minimal.. Anyways mate, great stuff!

I like recording things before a drop myself, makes it feel more special to you haha

If you have 2 or 3 minutes spare, have a listen to mine as you obviously have a good ear so would be great to get your opinion

lemme know whatcha think. it hasn't even been properly mixed in ableton, i'm doing that in pro tools because that's what my class is for. just what do you think of the structure/composition so far?

@ascian: before the drop its a bit boring tone wise, less so after the bass kicks in. Your mix sounds very good though, everything comes through without being muddled. My only other suggestion would be to add another instrument that adds some higher frequencies to the mix.

I used to make tunes a few years ago, but to cut a long story short I started working hard as hell and had no time for it. However, I've recently been playing around again and put together a rhythm section for a collaboration between me and a good mate (which we've been talking about for years but never got round to doing).

Just after some feedback on how it's sounding sonically and rhythmically. Like I say I've been outta the game for a long time and might be a bit rusty.

Soundcloud

Cheers!

p.s. I'm aware that there's some compression issues with the sub and the kick in places, but I'm revising for some exams so haven't had time to sort it yet!

Cosmic Surgeon: Just to let ya know, in the feedback forum we always give feedback to at least 3 people before posting your own tune.. Make sure you feedback on three others after!

Rhythmically: I really like it! It's pretty dark as it seems either unquantized or it has a weird groove applied..? Either way, I really like it!

Sonically: The issues for me is that it's not very dynamic, pretty much all bass. May be a mixing issue though as that waveform looks ducked out. Also, your kick is hitting way too low as I'm struggling to even make out which is the kick and which is the sub.. Turn the sub WAY down in the mix (maybe -10dB or so - maybe even more) and EQ the kick so that it sits either above the sub or use sidechain compression so that it kicks through the sub.

Good starting blocks for a tune though!

edit: Actually, listening again.. That snare is very nice. Duck the sub down, make sure everything is EQ correctly, maybe some added midbassy percussion and a bit of panning and this could sound well good!

Oh shit, sorry mate didn't realise  (never posted in here before!)

I've got the rest of the night off so I'll have a ganders and what y'all have been producing. Cheers for the feedback! Like I say it's just bass and percussion atm as my mate's taking over synth duties (I've got a better feel for rhythm, but he's far better at engineering interesting sounds). Sidechaining the kick is a good idea dude, I'll try that before I get into compression.

Feedback post:

Seeing as you were kind enough to share feedback with me: I love the pads at the start - the drop is great too, love that b-line - the high pitched synth which enters at 2:18 onwards I think would sound big if you extended it throughout the tune (would make that first drop really go off). Can definitely imagine giving it the old left-right if I heard it out!

Minor criticisms: I felt the drums in the intro were a bit rigid and could do with the same sorta subtle swagger the rest of the tune has.

(just gonna have a look at the rest of the thread and edit this post with feedback on 2 more tunes)

@Drake89: you need some sub in this dude, and try and filter out some of the high end in your melodies - they're a bit cutting!

@mistayif: funky ting is brilliant mate. I've never really clicked with funky (with the exception of one or two tunes) but this I'm seriously digging - love everything about it, your percussion is on point (real bouncy, the reverb on those hits is such a nice touch), the pads and that vocal sample complement each other perfectly. Might be a bit cheeky but if there's a possibility of a 320 or so when this is finished I'd definitely take you up on it!

Haha, no worries mate - I could tell you were one of the good ones!

Thanks for the feedback man, Definitely need to shake up the percussion in the intro, good idea!

Looking forward to seeing what your WIP turns into for sure

Tune updated!

I'll give thorough feedback and mixing tips if you want them to anyone who listens to and gives proper feedback on my whole tune (quite long!) including whether the second drop @ 3min 12 is too "tech"

Cheers!

^^I think that was meant for someone else??

@Ascian - Diggin' the intro,... thats a sick bass! I love the piano, and all the squiggly sounds.. For the second drop, it sounds good, but i think you need to keep the tempo up a bit more, like it does at 3:23...

@cosmic surgeon - Nice ryhthm, I don't really like the lo-fi snare, and the mix is way bass heavy... but its up to opinion.. :P

@mistayif - For Satin Lace, the kick sounds a bit too low on my speakers.. Those synths and piano are perfect, and it has great atmosphere..
For Funky Ting, the vocals are nice but get repetitive really fast... Great vibe and atmosppere as well :W:

My best attempt so far at some dirty dubstep :D Feedback appreciated

@Ascian It's unmixed? I reckon you've hit the levels on the spot. The drops fine, some risers would be good like you said, but the sound production in this is really unique :)
The intro sounds like its missing something... maybe swap the snare in the intro for a really light, woody one?
Oh, and either mono some elements in the drop or cut out some of the high freq. Something was messing with head when I was playing loud... hehe, its a real banger though mate.
@mistayif sounding lush, I can't really pick anything out that should have their levels raised or lowered... maybe the high vocals just a 'tad' more? It sounds fine on my speakers, so maybe that's just an unnecessary call.
Feeling the funkyting track, it is a bit repititive but it's still quality. Maybe you should take out some elements every 8 or 16 bars or so... maybe some stutters, I really don't know, just chuckin some ideas in. Your tracks are great and perfercted as they are. :P
@sera Intros great, that snare really fills out the mid/high range and balances it perfectly. I think the midrange bass at the drop could flow a bit better though... chuck a bit of sample/stereo delay on it to widen out some sections and make stand out a bit more, or layer multiple hat rhythms to keep the track moving. Also... did you low cut the sub out of the midrange reece thing? If you haven't, you should or at least make it noticable: sounds like some extra sub is need to add some extra oomph to it.

Now my track... I think it's pretty unmixed atm, fills like some elements are missing such as some reverse cymbals or crashes to go with the risers. I know the bass is muddy (the reverb not really going with it) but the verb brings out sweet spot in a particular part of the bass - but only for a second. Does anyone know what I should do to fix this? Do I lower the wet signal, verb time? I only want the verb to be applied to a small part of it and keep it going on afterwards... without any other signal being pushed into it, if you get what I mean...
Soundcloud
[edit] Only just noticed the clicks in the track...

@ascian - woah. I'm really digging it. Sick track. Definitely would like to get 320 when it's finished. The second drop IS HUGEEEEE
@alexvont12 - well, yeah. Nice groove. Keep up the good work.
@MexicanKangaroo - Although it's muddy, i'm really digging this one. Sick bass ! Hope you figure out the problem.

Janke- Tune has a strange feel to it almost feels like it's underwater idk, I like it. I would though like to hear more sub bass but that's just me. Nice track.

nnny- like always a fantastic tune. drums at 1:22 made me go blarrggarblarblarr (in a good way) :W: Pressing play on sketchy now.
lovely piano do you key them out yourself or use an arpeggiator? Great drums on this one too man.

z6z- really diggin this tune. I love the build up to the drop real eerie.

gf is waiting on me so I will post more feedback after dinner.

here's mine I liked this track but wanted to do another version with more energy so here it is.
mix advice is heavily appreciated because I has crummy speakers
