and even if he didn't actively practice KF like he does, it would still be a kung fu flick. Stop being pedantic.
How is it a Kung Fu film if there is no Kung Fu in it? It's a martial arts film.
So whats that kata hes doing at :14?

2001: A Space Odyssey
Thought the ending and beginning were a bit long and tedious, but HAL more than made up for it.
Dark City.
Was alright.

the beginning of 2001 is slow and tedious because it is reflecting the accelerating/spiraling nature of time. by the end of the movie he's zooming into infinity and beyond

Aw c'mon Dark City is fckn quality!

Just realised I got both of them filsm on blu-ray. And they look awesome.
Really need to watch both again. Tomorrow this shall be done. My girlfriend is a fan of Kubrick but really hates 2001. Daft cow.

There's also a lot of similarities between Dark City and The Matrix.. interesting that the former came out in '98, the latter in '99..

I realise why it was directed that way, and why it was necessary for his vision, but the middle section with HAL just held more emotional weight for me, and i like it more.christophera wrote:the beginning of 2001 is slow and tedious because it is reflecting the accelerating/spiraling nature of time. by the end of the movie he's zooming into infinity and beyond

tron predates both dark city and the matrix. the latter two are more visually similar though

Cheers. Great documentary.cityzen wrote:It's Muay Boran which means ancient boxing. It's the forefather of Muay Thai but essentially it's 'Muay Thai extra'.Motorway to Roswell wrote:Ah, ok. Please do. Curious now.
In fact, if you watch the Muay Boran movements, it's clear this is what Tony Jaa is doing in his films.
Watch this from 5:13...
The two American guys are pretty lame though.

^^Yeah the smaller guy especially. Total tool. It's a good series actually. Covers Muay Thai, Eskrima, Karate, Savate, Judo, Krav Maga, MCMAP, MMA, Kung Fu, Sambo, Silat and AND Ninjutsu! 'Fight Quest' is an almost identical series but with less annoying presenters and different martial arts.
Yeah oh well, it got answered in order not to confuse people. It's not Kung Fu, it's Muay Boran.borrowed wrote:Rhetorical question

True they've all got there similarities, even with Tron thrown in the mix. But The Matrix and Dark City revolve more around a world in which people are restrained by the way of a simulated reality..it seems infinite. While the guy in Tron (forgot his name) is zapped into a computer world by Master Control..it's digital, but no simulated reality..christophera wrote:tron predates both dark city and the matrix. the latter two are more visually similar though

Re: Secret Ninja Movie Club (aka what have you watched latel
it's definitely a simulated reality. they spell it out. the users are god. the people in the grid (matrix) are told that users don't exist, but some of them believe anyway.
the whole as above so below thing is what it's all about. we live in an illusory world that is like a cheap imitation of the real.

Simulated reality must be akin to actual reality, they are indistinguishable. You're reading more into the philosophy of the film, the philosophy of Tron's ''simulated reality''..christophera wrote:it's definitely a simulated reality. they spell it out. the users are god. the people in the grid (matrix) are told that users don't exist, but some of them believe anyway.
