I'd say so, depending on interface, try stick with fw400 or fw800 although I think usb 2.0 still cuts it for audio.

Works better when the drive spins 7200rpm.

Empty or not shouldn't impact unless it's quite old.
ok thanks mate

Is it worthwhile to convert my REX files in to Apple Loops? I have been turning them in to EXS24 instruments lately, trying to re-organize my samples, patches and basic template (just some audio & instrument channels set up, plus a set of drum busses, bass busses and a couple effects busses).

if they are actual loops, i think it is always good to have good apple loops around.

anyone know why sampler patches that come in sample packs won't load into the exs24? for some reason they're greyed out like thy're not compatible, i can't remember off the top of my head the name of the extension, i'll have a look later on when i'm back from work

You need to move the appropriate wav files corresponding to the exs patches to the same place, so it can load them. or to somewhere you can find them.

Most of them are, so I might start converting them, if only just to have a way to preview them all in Logic. Or I'll just keep Recycle open, not sure. Trying to get things organized is time consuming :|

The way I have my set-ups structured is to put all of the EXS24 patches (.exs) in a dedicated area, and then the actual samples in another.

First my .exs samples go here --> Library\Application Support\Logic\Sampler Instruments\
I have that broken down further in to sub-folders like Breaks, Drum Kits, Loops, etc. If I go in to the Breaks folder, there are more folders with the name of where the break came from, either a vinyl recording, sample pack name, or sample CD name.

Next is the actual samples, which I put here --> Library\Application Support\Logic\Samples\ or in they go to Library\Application Support\Logic\Sampler Files\
Those are broken in to sub-folders too, which in most cases match what's in the instruments folder.

If a screen shot would help, I can post some.

Is there a reason why audio files will open up in a separate edit window, but then sometimes instead as a sub-window to the arrange, when I try to view a file in the EXS24 with the Open in Sample Editor option? It is really random from what I am experiencing so far.

I guess I post random/personal taste questions in this too much.

What should I do with my old Logic 7 dongle? Should I be holding on to it and the manuals, or can I sell it?

I'm wondering if someone could shed some wisdom on my problem. I've just got Battery 3, installed it all correctly, it works in standalone, however not as a AU within Logic.

You can see here that Logic recognises it in the AU Manager:

However, when I go to load it as an insert, its not there:

Been troubleshooting on the internet with no success, if someone could make any suggestions that would be much appreciated :)

by your pic it looks to me like your looking in the wrong place, click where it says evp88 in blue then scroll to the bottom and it should be under
AU Instruments>

Wizeguy is right, you cant load instruments into the inserts, you load them via the I/O

how come whenever I play some keys on my midi keyboard from logic on some instrument channel that when I go to draw in some keys with the piano roll the notes I'm drawing in sound so muddy? like when I play them from my keyboard the sound is more prominent and has more emphasis while just playing some keys from the piano roll. I know it is not the velocity so what can it possibly be? this may have been answered already or a really simple question so any answers are appreciated. this is the only problem I am stumbling upon in logic.

how do u know its not the velocity : because the midi keyboard in logic has velocity settings (lower row)... double check that (i trust u tho!)

maybe its about the way u hit the notes.. do u draw them in too stiff???

i will double check the velocity lol. i just simply draw them in, im not used to just recording notes played from my keyboard and then quantizing them etc. i will get back to you soon!

ahahah wow! I just checked the velocity with the hyper editor and only on some instruments it isn't so "Bright" because the velocity isn't high enough while on others it doesn't even matter but in my case it does! i facepalm myself. :u:

thanks for making me double check it ahahahah

Anybody know if I can rename regions individually? I know I can rename them with the track name but I would like to label them independently.

escape brings the tool menu.. where u have all your cursor tools...

number four is usually the text tool.. select it and then click the name of a region, you should be able to type anything in

ps : these things are well explained in the manual, i dont want to be a dick, but seriously, ive done the same thing, kinda hop in without reading.. there is SO much u could learn about logic if u read the manual. im sad i didnt do it earlier.

On the subject of tools (pause), a cool tip here is you can set your cursor to act like the multi tool in pro tools. In preferences > editing, check fade tool click zones and marquee tool click zones. Then in the arrange page you cursor will switch to either fade or marquee tools depending whereabouts you hover it on the region.
