Bedroom Community

Post by pulkpull » Mon May 09, 2011 11:56 am

One of my favourite labels. But, ironically, I was only inspired to post about them here when I heard this:

The Kangding Ray EP with that tune on is a beast anyway, but Ben Frost is just huge. This is the title track from his first album on Bedroom Community:

Anyway, Bedroom Community is a label based in Iceland and formed by Valgeir Sigurðsson. Alongside Nico Muhly, Sam Amidon and the aforementioned Ben Frost they form the core of the label, although there are a couple of other acts signed. Everyone on the label has a wildly different sound and is involved in wildly different projects. By all rights it shouldn't work, but somehow it's just magic. They toured last year under the title of the Whale Watching Tour and it was one of the most amazing live music experiences of my life.

A few other bits from them:

<--- R Kelly cover. Worth the price of admission alone.

I hope someone finds something they like out of this, it's one of those labels that are just worth supporting.

Man, Ben Frost is just unreal. I really thought By The Throat was maybe the best album of 09. In terms of raw aggresive snarl-power, it puts 99.999% of dubstep to shame. And in a really artistic and genuinely moving fashion. Love up Sam Amidon and Nico Muhly too. Valgir Sigurdson is not so hot though. Did you see them a while ago at the Barbican? The four of them played together with some other musicians, playing a few of each artists songs. It was unreal.

This is a total beast of a tune:

Kudos on the name by the way haha

Yeah I was at the Barbican gig last year, totally blew me away. Shame it was half-empty though. Seeing The Only Tune 1-3 performed live will probably always be a highlight of my musical life.
