How do I make this sound?!?!
Ok, so I hear this sound effect quite a bit, but at the moment no song is jumping out at me. The only one that does is....(oh the shame).... Better off alone by Alice Deeejay. Hahaha hardly dubstep, but still. Ok it's the sound at the very very beginning of the song. Should be able to find it. Now, being still fairly new to production, I've been trying to replicate it without any luck so far. I guess I'm just a fool and a coward, but if anyone can help me out, that would be amazing. Ok thanks.

NO ONE KNOWS?!?!?! Or is everyone just too ashamed to listen to the song?.... I dig it. Fine, here's the link. Do your best not to get blown away by the phenomenal dancing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lgs9QUtWc3M

Re: How do I make this sound?!?!
Its a noise waveform with a resonant filter. An LFO set to square waveform is applied to the filter frequency with a short delay, so that the sound starts cutting after a little while - around 500ms.
The filter is also being manipulated by the filter envelope, quite a quick attack (giving it the initial sweep up) and a long decay.
What DAW are you using?

I think you're a very very big gain for the forum considering your knowledge of sound design and knowing how to produce very decent sounding songs while not limiting yourself to certain things like BPM. *cough Dasht-e Kavir cough*
You should take a look at the 'How to make this dungeon sound' or the 'How to make this sound 2011' thread, if you want to
Re: How do I make this sound?!?!
isn't there a "how do i make this sound 2011" thread? i don't mean to be a prick just saying i know you are pretty new to the forum so I don't blame you for not searching
Re: How do I make this sound?!?!
Thanks for that!
I think the reference was to an existing thread? I'll check it out.
Any sound like that will need some signal processing to sound good, compression and overdrive might work to begin with. Synths often sound quite raw with no effects. Another thing to consider...is it that it just doesn't fit the tune you're working on? I mean on a compositional level.
