i'm 99% it never goes, its cerntantly not expected to.
aparently it can get better by resting your ears, but its silence that becomes a problem as when there is noise around it blurs out the ringing. its when you are in a silent place that you notice it.
ive heard people who have it say, if they are sat around at home they have to keep a tv or computer on in the back ground as it cancels out the ringing.
if your planing on making a living out of music, get some ear plugs mate, you dont wanna reck the most important thing to you.

I always thought the guys with earplugs at clubs were being silly but I guess they're having the last laugh while the ringing in my ears comes and goes. At least it's the perfect excuse for my personality flaws.
They are sometimes unable to sleep, sustain relationships, or hold down employment.

A question for those with tinnitus- do you find since you've had it that your ears are more sensitive to loud high-pitched sounds? I can't stand hearing ambulances go past now or smoke alarms going off. They hurt my ears more than they used to, and I also have a little bit of tinnitus. Not enough to bother me. I think I just perceive it as some background sound and instinctively ignore it/don't hear it.

As yet, there is no cure for tinnitus, but there are ringing ears treatments that help manage and control its symptoms and even reduce it to ignorable to the extent that it will no longer be a factor in your life. To set expectations, there is no magic treatment for the ear ringing. Treating is a process which can require a comparatively long amount of time. Tinnitus suffering is characterized by the sound of ringing despite no apparent source for the noise. It is symptomatic of the root cause of the condition, and the ability to ascertain this cause is a crucial component in discovering the
best remedy for you.

Good thing I read this thread as this is something I would definitely not want to get. To be honest I'm shocked that there is no cure for it. I think DBS (Deep Brain Stimulation) could probably target the specific area and stop the overactive signals. Also I don't get why they haven't developed a specific drug for this - what a joke. Tinnutus sounds very unpleasant! I'm definitely going to get some pro earplugs now for the future.

I use these:
They are only about 12 quid and well worth every penny. I've been playing drums for about 10 years but it wasn't til my right popped during a Mogwai gig in Sheffield about 5 years ago that I took ear protection very seriously. Since then my right ear is a little more sensitive than the left and will be for the rest of my life. It makes me cringe when I see people at gigs stood right next to a speaker horn, I always hope for them they are wearing some plugs.

anyone who thinks its gay to wear them is a prick.
mind you, having said that, I'll never resort to wearing cycle helmets. totally gay.
LOL I don't wear a cycle helmet either. I said to myself when I have an accident I will get one. I have an accident and fracture my wrist. Still not bothered about a helmet. That shit's gay.

I've had it since birth, mind was blown when I figured out that not everyone heard it. Its always made reading and listening to people a right chore.

i've had it since sophomore year of high school. there are days when the ringing isn't as loud as others (maybe me just not thinking about it), but in my experience it's only gotten worse.

when i was in bands, i never wore ear plugs. not only did they feel uncomfortable, i could never get used to the way everything sounded with them in.
looking back now, i probably should've stuck with it.

Is there anything to make the ringing not as noticable? Like weed or something?

tinitus is a symptom. the curability of tinitus depends on what kind of disease it is caused by. i had a surgery of my eustachian tube where a little defect was located. the tinitus has gone. i wear costum made ear-protection since then.
there is a sort of tinitus wich is caused directly by a malfuntion of the auditive cortex. this tinitus never goes, even if you trench the auditory nerve.

Haha fuck yeah it is! This is a very interesting subject though and I think people need to learn why and how they get/stay away from tinnitus. Atleast I do

That sounds like a BAD idea. Weed normally seems to make my senses more detailed especially hearing so you might end up noticing it more. Then get paranoid about it, then its down hill from there

haha. Drink would probably dumb you down enough to notice it less or not give a shit about it. Not really practical solutions to the problem either way.
