Jr doesn't yet appreciate some of the understandings that come along with having spent more than 16 years on the planet.
Also, Jr should be banned for feeling the need to contribute nonsense every other second.
Serious time, folks.

You can have experience from any age, unless youre literally 4. Ive played guitar for 12 years, yet Im 18, and i bet im a more EXPERIENCED guitarist than a 50 year old who's played for 2 yearsSiderealdb wrote:Debaser1 wrote:Experience seems to associate with age quite well.Siderealdb wrote:

Nobody's stopping you from continuing the discussion. Just ignore the posts you deem non relevant. This place is a community made up by people. We're not perfect, we will derail discussions when we've gotten through 12 pages of real talk and debate, we will post where we're not meant to, we will annoy people and rub each other wrong from time to time, equally, we will get topics like this back on point, we will report threads that are out of place, we will upload quality content that helps people advance their knowledge.drokkr wrote:FFS, you lot even managed to derail this thread... well done
To get this back on point:
So I hear there's going to be a poll on the forum being split - discuss.

what the hell guys. hate on a guy just cuz he said he was kidding about the whole mod thing...seriously isnt this thread supposed to be about fixing DSF? You guys are ruining it even more. Getting angry over nothing. Same thing happens with the whole Chad thing. What? DSF Can't take a joke from time to time? You think everybody's serious all the time? He shouldn't be annoying you guys so badly tbh you guys just need to lighten up. Maybe thats the real problem behind DSFp
LIGHTEN UP GUYS
oh, and at the guy who said I post nonsense every other second. This happens to be my first and only post today. I said, I would tone it down for the forum's sake, didn't I? And I don't normally post nonsense either unless the thread is already filled with it.

1.1k already

What do you know of DSF? Nobodies serious, ever. I do like seeing some anger from you though.

I also doubt your ability to resist replying jr.

All good points I feel may have been overlooked in the heat of jr. bashing.Yes - Community:
- Everyone contributing more tutorials and articles in general.
- Everyone submitting links to the mods and I in order to expand both the DJ and Production bibles. (Mods, you can edit and add to those posts too innit?!)
- Stickied weekly 'IN FOCUS: How to make this sound' thread. (One sound per week voted for in a separate thread which is only open for a few hours on a Friday.)
- Renamed 'Mixing and Mastering' thread. (Wtf does 'Moneyshot' mean anywayz? Just call it 'Mixing and Mastering Info' so we can all understand!)
- Stricter modding (locking repeat threads and actually banning consistent trolls Image)
- Moar mods (appointed by vote like last time)
Yes - Technical:
- New users introduction thread/system giving no ability to post new threads until five posts made. (Works well on other forums.)
- Compulsory tags when posting new topics so that threads are easily found when searched for. (Works very well on Stackoverflow.)
- Thread voting system (again like Stackoverflow)
No:
- Split forums. (If you want 100% on topic production related discourse, go to Studio-Central or KVRaudio. Both forums offer stricter modding and are frequented by very knowledgable professional technicians.)
- Whining about crap threads. (Don't like Trolls? Don't feed 'em! Use your autonomy and do something else.)
- Lightweight modding. (Bring on the 'locks & bans' when a consistent troll appears.)
Futures Untold is exactly the sort of contributor whose presence/absence will make or break the production forum.
I am in the middle of finals and can't articulate exactly what I want to say here. Maybe it doesn't need to be said? We all get it.
Thank-You Futures Untold for your invaluable contributions to the production forum.
If there are other forums better suited for more technical conversations, what do you see as the primary purpose of DSF's production forum? (I can't decide if this question is as stupid as it sounds or not)

Futures is absolutely paramount to the survival of dsf, as is depone. There are others that contribute as well, just not as gracefully.

symptomatic of the whole place really.
Quite honestly i couldnt care less anymore, cant be arsed with 99% of it these days but will still try to help people who actually seem to want to try/learn. So many people just want spoon feeding. And you cant help people like that.
Re: Serious time, folks.
Well at least a poll would be democratic.
There is some level of snobbery though - I went to the 'introduce yourself' thread, described myself as 'deep bass' and got people saying 'I wish people would stop using the word 'deep'.
If every word is to be put under the microscope then people will end up leaving - I almost felt sorry for joining.
I think lightening up a bit would be a good thing for some peeps

Sad fact, but most of the Internet is like that. If you joined a football site and said who you favourite player was, you'd still get people picking holes in your choice. It's reflective no matter what the theme.lysergene wrote:There is some level of snobbery though - I went to the 'introduce yourself' thread, described myself as 'deep bass' and got people saying 'I wish people would stop using the word 'deep'.

Re: Serious time, folks.
Production is currently more active than the Grid on DOA so it's currently the first place I check.
Production forums are always going to be most helpful to total n00bs and they're always going to ask simple questions which have been asked before, I don't think that the forums die because people asking the same questions again and again, it's partly because you out grow it and as you learn more and start working things out for yourself and no longer need everything handed on a plate for you and also because people new to production can search the history and find the answers with out making new posts.
Sure people need check for if something has already been answered before posting but I actually think the people moaning about people post skrillex posts do more damage than the people post the posts. A better approach would be to post a reply to the thread with a link to a previous conversation about the topic then lock down the new topic if it's not adding anything new to the question.

Re: Serious time, folks.
This. Noobs need to search more and regs need to stop bashing the noobs and be more tolerant. Constant skrillex threads piss everyone off wether youve been here a month or 5 years. If everyone calmed down and dealt with these threads in a more constructive way chances are theyd dry up. People keep these threads alive by posting pointless shit like 'omg lolz u suck' and then moan when the top 5 threads are all skrillex related. Makes no sense.futures_untold wrote:Yes - Community:

Re: Serious time, folks.
Both questions are definately relevant and on point. If we all asked our selves what we get out of visiting DSF, then we'd be able to evaluate whether it's worth our time browsing given our individual goals.tuckerlinen wrote:If there are other forums better suited for more technical conversations, what do you see as the primary purpose of DSF's production forum? I can't decide if this question is as stupid as it sounds or not?
Possible reasons for providing a Production subforum:
1> To act as a meeting point for like minded music producers with similar tastes in music.
2> To provide an entry point for people interested in learning to produce dubstep through discourse with other people already involved in producing dubstep.
3> To provide knowledge to the people.
4> To provide lulz.
Reasons I use DSF personally:
1> As a distraction from other things I could/should be doing. DSF beats Facefuck because often I actually learn something, and isn't as grim as reading the daily news.
2> To feel part of a like minded community with similar tastes and interests. Crucially the people here have a similar level of knowledge so I don't feel out of depth asking questions as I do on other more technical forums. I like the fact that I can ask a legit question and either get a decent answer or pointed in the right direction quickly. I've also met up with a few of you too, so I actually do feel like part of a proper community.

3> To learn new things. Did you see those posts on modes or music theory or 16bit vs 24bit audio?

4> Contributing properly is like my way of earning brownie points for entry to a better place lol. It feels good to help someone, especially when I don't feel great myself on occassion. I struggle with so many topics in life that it is nice to know that while others help me with many many things, I can help others too in my own ways.
5> Force of habit. I gotta click something when I log onto the computer each day! (See point 1)
6> For the lulz. Occassionally DSF is amusing when a gag is made (although not the alpaca or ham shit per se, even if occassionally that too can be amusing.)
101 Tips for staying live on DSF:
- Contribute whatever you feel is helpful or relevant to music and helping people learn about production.
- Use the 'Ignore User' function when someone pisses you off consistently.
- Read the manual before you ask.
- If the last point didn't answer your query, search before you ask. How many times have you actually reformulated your question into new keywords so that Google throws up the information you seek?
- Think before you post. Is it a negative response? Does it need to be said? Can you walk away and do something else if it pisses you off? Does it even matter considering the state of larger issues in our world? Are you feeding a troll? Are you trolling? If you're trolling, how long will will it take before the penny drops that you're actually being a bellend and ruining shit for others?
- Read books. You'll actually learn more by reading books than reading DSF in a shorter period of time. Reading books should be a priority if you're new to music production as the authors of those books provide clear insight into the theory and technology used by professionals. Don't know which books to read? There's some good recommendations in the books and magazines thread. Forums should be used as a last measure after the Google, books, the manual and the developer of the software you use have been exhausted.
Share, live long and prosper!
Patrick
