FM Sampler
Ok so I am a huge fan of FM synthesis. I have wav's (other than one-shot waveforms) that I want to FM the same way as I would in a synth. Sytrus works with one-shot waveforms only, so how would I go about FM'ing a longer waveform?
EDIT: I don't have cash to spend at the moment, so I would appreciate any free samplers/plugins that have this feature

Re: FM Sampler
in Karmafx modular you can use audio signals to modulate everything. As it has a sampler you could use this to modulate a simple oscillator, which sounds pretty nice, but the other way round I always ended up in a mess.

Re: FM Sampler
I'm not aware of any free vst that can do something like this.

Re: FM Sampler
So you want something that FM synthesis does, modulators modulating operators, but you want the modulator and operators to be audio samples?

Re: FM Sampler
that's the way I understood it.
Re: FM Sampler
maybe you should try reaper, because it is possible to use any audiosource as modulation input on any vst parameter.
Re: FM Sampler
lol. aint about to daws for something like this. i just paid $300 for a legit copy of FLbuttock wrote:maybe you should try reaper, because it is possible to use any audiosource as modulation input on any vst parameter.

Re: FM Sampler
Absynth will do this, AFAIK, but its not free...
Re: FM Sampler
dang. im starting to get into FL Synthmaker...have no idea how it works just yet, but I'm thinking it can be a huge step in my synthesis and I'd probably be able to do this somehow with Synthmaker once I learn how to use it
Re: FM Sampler
Isn't ring modulation and FM basicly the same thing ? You could still use a vst if your sampler doesn't have that feature.
Re: FM Sampler
ring modulation modulates the volume output but frequency modulation modulates the frequency...not the same. and to clarify, FL default sampler CAN do FM, but only by setting an LFO to the pitch and turning the speed all the way up. And the modulator's frequency can't be controlled without going back to the inaudible range.daft tnuc wrote:Isn't ring modulation and FM basicly the same thing ? Re: FM Sampler
I think you can make one in synthmaker. I made a synth which enabled me to draw waveshapes manually. Only issue was getting it to save with the FLP.
I never tried dragging waveshapes in because untill recently, I never had any to try with, but not got that synth anymore, comp crashed a while back

Re: FM Sampler
Really? I really need to dig into absynth. Of all of komplete, it is by far my least used plugin. I've opened it three or four times, tried some presets that I didn't like, squinted at the ugly interface that I PATENTLY didn't understand, and just closed the fucker.paradigm x wrote:Absynth will do this, AFAIK, but its not free...

Re: FM Sampler
Wait, wut? Were you saying Massive? I literally think that is the best designed synth vst gui out there. I really really like it. Very logical flow, roomy without being big, tangible without being jokey and inaccurate, muted colors with just the right amount of contrast, without being too dark. I can and do literally stare at that thing for hours every day. I really like that ui man!

I don't like the interface mainly because the look of it reminds me of some ugly freeware I used to use.
