It's not a way of enforced segregation, all it serves is to stop us having to wade through "here's my first tune, give me feedback" and "how can I be skrillex?" threads. I firmly believe that simply making the sub-forum an extra click once in production is going to keep the really n00by threads in the top part of the forum. I don't think it necessarily has to be for super advanced production techniques. Just a place for producers to talk shop without having to deal with repetitive questions.

The sub-forum will filter itself because only people who bother to read through the stickies and find it will go into it and those are the exact kind of people we want there. People who can't be bothered to read what the stickies or forum description will just come into production, make their first ever post asking how to recreate ghosts and sprite or whatever it's called and bugger off again.
If it's not exclusive it will develop the same problems this forum has.

New annoying repeat questions will develop, instead of skrillex threads, you'll get "so... what exactly IS fm synthesis? I'm still confused" threads, and initially these won't bother people, but over time they will irk, and become the new forums version of a skrillex thread, and idiots like me will always post in the wrong place unless we are stopped, we are a cancer. It's sad, but true.

I just don't think that's true, but there's no way of finding out unless we try.

even if this does happen, an exclusive forum is extremely unlikely. both because of the reasons kaiori mentioned, and for the simple fact that it would take a lot of work to keep the membership list maintained (and that would be something that the current production mods wouldn't have the necessary access to)

if it was decided to implement it then it would probably have to be a sub-forum within production with open access to anyone that wanted it

That's exactly what we want. I don't think anyone is in favour of making it invite only.

Thankies for clarifying that one.

Like I said, I don't think the split forum would work unless it was inherently unfair and had a degree of exclusivity, but we'll just wait and see I guess.

This may seem a tad far-fetched, but can't you lot just ignore the threads you have no interest in and read the ones you do have interest in. Having a sub forum will not increase the amount of 'good threads', in fact the amount will probably decrease due to people not believing their thread is worthy for the more technical section.

Keep hearing this. This is illusory. What happens when two weeks go by and there isn't one thread on the first page that is interesting? Every thread is how to crack massive, how to make the srkillex, I want feedback on my first fart.

In which case more active modding to provide links to the places where these subjects are already covered (i.e. the Skrillex thread list/Dubs board/WIP thread) followed by a lock. The locked duplicate threads will soon drift off the bottom of the board.

That in theory could work, but it just doesn't happen does it?

It's already been stated in another thread that a new mod will be starting soon, so there is no reason why with the extra pair of hands it couldn't work.

There is little reason why it hasn't worked.

It really depends on who the mod is.

Hopefully they have a clear understanding of the members feelings on these repeat topics. Like I mentioned earlier, in this thread. We have to police this a bit more ourselves too.

Soooooo, just out of curiosity, Why would you split it when you could simply enforce your own rules better, i see no point in the split, what i see is the need for Mod's with more time one their hands, somebody that doesn't work 40+ hours a week, in my opinion you need some of these so called "Brosteppers" who stay at home all day doing nothing but browsing the forum, to learn their shit and stop being stupid, use proper grammer, using modulated bass instead of wobblezZzZ might actually get your question answered, and put greater detail into your posts, and maybe if you did some perusing through the forums before you start asking all sorts of questions, if you did this then im sure all the Vet's on DSF would stop posting pictures of alpacas, and to all the vets posting pictures of alpacas, this does nothing but antagonize them into posting more stupid shit because you didn't answer their question, and also instead of posting a alpacas, maybe just post links to some old threads that answer their questions, this can all be worked around. :W:

Alpacas. Not llamas. Alpacas.

You do, however, have a point. If more people opted to link to where the topic has already been discussed, then the 'repeat question' threads wouldn't cause so many disagreements IMO.

all i can say is that thats exactly what needs to happen, its not that new members aren't stupid necessarily, but lazy, theres so much information to process, and threads to visit, and some of that information is so technical, for somebody just starting it might be overwhelming, and then some of the threads are pretty vauge, thats why i started my Reason thread, i've been to pretty much every nook and cranny of DSF and couldn't find the information i needed, then i started a new Reason 4 and 5 specific Thread, And thank you Paravrais, i learn something new everyday on this forum, although not it may not be about Dubstep :6:
