Unsatisfied with the current dubstep sound ?
Exactly.
If we are concerned with the way the sound is going, then we should make the music we would want to hear, play it out, or put a night on and book like minded DJs. This is the only real way to help shape the sound and push a style we (as individuals) are comfortable with. Not simply talking.

It's exactly the way I feel : " action speaks louder than argument ! "
Just talking and moaning on some forum achieves nothing.
It is the very idea behind this compilation : moaning about the state of dubstep isn't productive at all... therefore why don't we produce and publish forward thinking music ourselves ? Hence my call to all producers...!
...
Anyone who knows me could tell you that I do things, I don't just talk about doing things.
I took it on myself a good while ago to organize a grime and dubstep monthly ( still the only all-night grime /dubstep event in my city, and one of the only two regular grime / dubstep events in this city, the other one being KOMODO DUBS ), in order to give the public a taste of what I feel is " forward " music.
I release music regularly...
Play out regularly...
Spend hour after hour in the studio making new tunes and trying to come up with new production techniques that could be applied to dubstep production...
My website ( www.fyutchaflex.com ) + forum ( http://www.fyutchaflex.com/phpBB2/index.php ) was and is still the only grime and dubstep ressource for people living in Montreal, Canada...
I listen to everything that's sent to me and reply with detailed feedback...
Frankly, I spend every minute I have trying to make and publish music that I feel is " forward ", trying to spread the forward virus... I don't think I could do any more than I do right now, there are not enough hours in a day !
I am unsatisfied, yes indeed, and I'm trying, to the best of my abilities, to do something about it !

for the record, i dont hate current dubstep at all, and contrary to what slums posted earlier, if i was to, hypothetically, say that i was unhappy with the current state of the music, am i also saying that all the producers who have ever made tracks are shit? no. thats not what im saying, so i would appreciate it if you dont put words in my mouth.
what i DO feel is that there are many people who percieve loefah's sound to be what dubstep is, or skream's, or coki's, or benga's, or halfstep, or wobble, or 4/4, or whatever.
if this music is anti formula, than shouldnt we, as a community that has formed around this music, encourage producers to innovate, and think outside of the box that many people unknowingly put themselves in? I think so, and if anyone thinks that this is negative, destructive thought-crime, then fuck you, get out. I really dont give a fuck what the thread title says. I am mature enough to see past it, and percieve what intoccabile is really trying to do. is anyone else here capable of maturity of a similar nature?

that said, i think 75% of the tunes he writes these days should've never have been cut, but even the latest valve tunes; on a production level are still miles above the rest of the genre.
i'd be interested if he cut back on the cheesey factor and went back to his cybotron era (at his peak, every tune a dancefloor bomb)... and made a few dubstep tunes
i'd be interested to hear the results... no other d&b producers tunes could work the subs at the end to that extent...

dude, as far as pointing you to the threads about people moaning about dubstep becoming boring, - use the search function.Sand Leaper wrote:dj slums wrote: ''so and so just keeps releasing tunes that sound the same''

''everyones jumping on bandwagons'' ''not enough 2step''

''is this the end of dubstep?'' ''which came first? the dub or the step?''
Could someone point me to the threads where people are saying that dubstep is stagnant, dying etc.? I honestly haven't seen anything like that here...
Also, certain people need to stop throwing all their toys out of the pram just cos someone criticises their favourite tune, artist or type of music. It's not a given that people will always be as experimental-minded and versatile as dubstep producers are right now, and sure as hell not if people do not analyze the music they make and respond with constructive criticism accordingly.
as far as ''people'' throwing their dummies out of the pram is concerned- its not due to it being cos ''their'' favourite tunes/producers are being cussed, its cos ''theyre'' bored to fuck of people who are probably wank at dj'ing, and wank at producing, standing around stroking their beards, picking faults. too much negativity as far as the musics concerned. and to even moan about threads were people big up producers/tunes on here is just ghey.
and as far as analyzing music is concerned, i think some people have got a little too much time on their hands, and should actually try and enjoy the music rather than geek it to fuck.

Because skream, coki , benga and loefah are a major part of the sound called dubstep? What is wrong with people associating the dubstep sound with those names? They have been working within this music for a long time.
if this music is anti formula, than shouldnt we, as a community that has formed around this music, encourage producers to innovate, and think outside of the box that many people unknowingly put themselves in?
Mate, you are bringing your own luggage to the party here. Did someone hand you a slip that said this music is so and so when you started listening to it and making it?
The truth is people or ,"this community", don't owe you anything or any producer for that matter.
If people pay attention to you and the music you like that is great- icing on the cake so to speak. But to think things should be the way you think they should be is a little- hmm...
Regardless,"The community", is supportive of new producers, people do encourage people to innovate. I do not know where you are getting the idea that they don't.
As an individual I will accept and reject support or not support what I want without a lecture from you.
I hope "the community" will do the same.
Now - speaking of maturity:
I think so, and if anyone thinks that this is negative, destructive thought-crime, then fuck you, get out.
No one said it was a thought crime. As for the other words - no comment- it speaks volumes about your attitude.

i havent put anything in your mouth dude.
i was reffering to the actual thread itself, and i do still think its kind of dissing the people who have already made it, people that put alot of time and effort into creating the scene.
i agree this music shouldnt get boring, but im sure most people like dubstep and even got into it for its diversity?

you've misunderstood me man, i never said that i dont like loefah, coki, skream, benga, etc. i LOVE a lot of their tracks. I really appreciate where dubstep has come from, and im excited about where it CAN go.
what i dont dig is the idea that people think that you can make a dubstep tune if you copy what these cats have done. its their sound, so give it to them, and create your own style. thats what they did.
regarding "boxes" i was speaking in general about people's perceptions of reality and how their lives are all limited by the way they think things are. Everyone has these perceptions, beliefs and paradigms, so its hardly my own baggage. Most humans cant exist without a reason for doing so. everyone lives in a box.
this is the most communal music scene i've ever .... seen. so it feels like a community to me

i dont think this group of people owe me anything, i make my own luck, and my own opportunities. always have, and always will.
its too bad if you mispercieved what i was trying to say, because it was actually alot more positive than you took it... its just that "fuck you" were the last words you saw in my post, and so you felt the need to react. thats a normal thing to do

im compassionately begging people to make something more of the myriad of possibilities in this genre.

things are recognized fairly quickly in this community. You have not even been on here a year yet parson and you are getting some wax with your name on it.

There's a world of difference between threads proclaiming the impending death and stagnation of dubstep as a genre and threads where people say they are becoming "bored" with dubstep. A person becoming bored with a genre doesn't automatically think that the genre is stagnating and dying.dj slums wrote: dude, as far as pointing you to the threads about people moaning about dubstep becoming boring, - suse the search function.
I don't have to be a good DJ myself to hear that another DJ is mixing like shit. Neither do I have to be a good producer myself to hear flaws in another producer's track. So why would it matter whether people are shit at djing or producing themselves when it comes to the validity of their criticism towards someone's mixing or track?as far as ''people'' throwing their dummies out of the pram is concerned- its not due to it being cos ''their'' favourite tunes/producers are being cussed, its cos ''theyre'' bored to fuck of people who are probably wank at dj'ing, and wank and producing, standing around stroking their beards, picking faults.
Seriously, will people just stop using this "don't criticize unless you can do better"-nonsense as an argument already.
In other words, you're pissed off over the fact that people criticize the music you like, and you're telling them off via fanboy personal attacks and generalizations instead of actually addressing what they have to say. How bout showing these people some of the great stuff dubstep has to offer instead? Wouldn't that be a bit more constructive in regards to reducing "all this negativity" than whining about it like this?and as far as analyzing music is concerned, i think some people have got a little too much time on their hands, and should actually try and enjoy the music rather than geek it to fuck.

and no, you're right, you dont have to be a good dj, and you dont have to produce to moan about a scene, and bring negativity. well done. but do you bring anything positive to it? and the reason people use that argument, is probably because these people put alot into making this music, and have got alot of love for it. so when somone moans that they dont like it, and lets face it they are not very vaild reasons, then its going to get very tiresome isnt it.
and you talk about me making generalizations, but youre just generalising our argument. we're just ''pissed off over the fact that people criticize the music we like'' err, no, its just very irritating having people post negative unproductive comments.
and as for showing these people some of the great stuff dubstep has to offer? wtf? youre on a dubstep forum. its got loads of really cool categories too, like dubs, and mixes... the proof is in the pudding. theres so many people on this forum alone- check their my-spaces - nuff wickid tunes - all sorts of mad styles. very exciting stuff. i also like to browse music shops and listen to tunes. yeah, you do find theres alot of shoddy stuff, people copying styles but not very well etc etc.. so you move on, and keep looking because theres so much out there. but if you cant be bothered to do that, then fair enough, more for me.
like i said in the previous post - signing new artists n putting out new stuffs all good, just dont knock whats already out there. theres no reason to be disatisfied. and its kind of an insult to the hard work put in.
also, im not quite sure what fanboy comment was about, whingy beard stroker geeks just bug me. stop the negativity.
And of course some of the up and coming dj's giving them exposure. I do think there's a bit of a closed shop in some respects, but if you can't get access to them, there's plenty of other dj's who'll give it time. Get plenty of plays and support from the international crew and I think in a lot of ways they're more likely to take chances with their selections. People should recognize the community more and not just have the goal of getting signed to a prestigious label.Parson wrote:i think the myriad is there and there's no call to action needed

Oh, should also add to my list of good composers/producers - Southern
Don't know the tune but the one with the mad percussion melody and mad speed up section - heard it on a good system tonight and it fucking rocked like a bastard. Really should check out more of his tunes.
Hmm....

most of the stuff that is exciting at the moment is from people who havn't been really 'into' the dubstep sound, as in listening to alot of tunes going to alot of the regular nights etc but have taken the concept and done something their own with it. I dont think artists should even be taking influence from dubstep these days its become too much of a standard sound most influence leads to imitaion at this stage in a electronic genre's progression that has ended up as limited as dubstep.
