Possibly a bad idea
What do you guys think of a "Record Label AIM inbox" thread?
Like the one we have for us, but with label adds instead. I understand that with the number of freshies browsing here, the labels listed could receive a lot of spam. But some good could come of it.
Reason I ask, I wanna start sending out to people, not just other producers and DJs.
Thoughts? Opinions? Suggestions?

Re: Possibly a bad idea
How would we get labels to do that?
Re: Possibly a bad idea
Can't we just make a thread and put them there?therapist wrote:How would we get labels to do that?
most labels (In drum & bass, the only genre with labels I have contacts to) don't tend to have an issue with sharing AIM adresses, they put them up, and wade through the crap tunes to find the "gems" ("" because some of these "gems" are debatable imo).

You shouldnt post anyones information other then your own anywhere ever.
Going through lists on DSF blindly sending demo's seems like a horrible strategy in and of its self.

I agree, permission would have to be obtained first, and I believe that if your sending a track to a label then you should know who you want to be sending you tunes too. Deffo not just sending tunes left right and centre. Only my opinion tho, so don't take this comment as rude!Basic A wrote:You shouldnt post anyones information other then your own anywhere ever.

Re: Possibly a bad idea
thats all its gonna lead to if you make a big list of contact AIM's, people going down through the list and spamming everyone, reducing the effectiveness of quality control, ect.nnny wrote:I agree, permission would have to be obtained first, and I believe that if your sending a track to a label then you should know who you want to be sending you tunes too. I think you overestimated things alot when you said they get sent alot of shit and wade through to find the goods. Sometimes... But that is not how any label wants to operate. Typically you come in contact with label owners/reps on a casual basis first, build up a level of mutual respect and then they approach you at a time when they feel you both would benefit mutually from working together.
If you are going to send demo's, it should be after a thorough investigation of the label, and if your looking into a business venture with any level of seriousness, youll have found the contact details yourself, and thus eliminates the point of the thread (with the exception of spam).

Re: Possibly a bad idea
I would rather contact a label through email since for me that seems more of the professional approach one can do.
Re: Possibly a bad idea
I get what you're saying and fully agree. I know where I want my tunes to be, just have no means of getting them there, hence the idea.nnny wrote:I agree, permission would have to be obtained first, and I believe that if your sending a track to a label then you should know who you want to be sending you tunes too. Re: Possibly a bad idea
Most reputable labels don't operate like that in as much as they will not accept unsolicited material
why even bother with a label?
there are more ways than ever for you to distribute your music yourself and it's fairly easy for most of the return

Re: Possibly a bad idea
i guess its cool when labels give you feedback to improve on for future tracks in case you did want to send sooner or later. but for some of them if you go on their website they usually have the a&r people's screen names.
being on a label with all the hype and shit seems like merely an ego boost sometimes. but then shamelessly self promoting too much is just lame.

Well, there's not too much else I can do at my age. And I always saw going to labels as the natural progression. Once you feel ready, start sending out. I've only got dnb producers/djs/labels, atm, my stuff won't be going anywhere, looking to expand a bit I guess..

Why should age be a factor in how you can/can't promote your music?

Re: Possibly a bad idea
a lot of times you should just promote your music and let a label find you. but don't spam
and a good way to promote yourself nowadays is to just send your track to some well known promoters on YouTube that have loads of subscribers. or upload the song yourself

Re: Possibly a bad idea
I'd prefer to make a name for myself by being out there, djing, actually doing shit. Deep dubstep just isn't striking the right chords with kids my age, and I'm not old enough to mingle with older crowds.wub wrote:zerbaman wrote: Well, there's not too much else I can do at my age.

You probably have some advice on overcoming this? I hope?
And at the little rascals, they're gone now, and anyone could get on Channel U

I would just start befriending older heads that are into that deep stuff and go from therezerbaman wrote:I'd prefer to make a name for myself by being out there, djing, actually doing shit.
