A healthy time for music
A healthy time for music
A lot of negative threads on here so just posting one to make you reflect/think on the postive side of things. From where I'm standing it's a very healthy time for music, there's so many good releases coming out I can't keep track of it and there's a lot of producers/DJ's raising the bars higher and higher. I'm pleased to be alive in a time of such a great amount of electronic music.
Having Hessle audio's 116 and rising and Hotflushes Back and 4th compilations come out in a short space of time made me think about how much great things are going on musically.
Big up to all producers/DJ who've had this effect on me.

Re: A healthy time for music
Yes it definitely is, I'm still catching up on some 2010 tunes but this year has been good. Ignore the shite the comes out. 116 and Rising is a very nice compilation, Back and 4th I had my eye on purely for Sepalcure - Take You Back but it turned out to be another solid compilation. Also, Old Apparatus are something different, not fully "into" it yet as there is only a few tracks out, but I reckon it/they will be something special. Kode9 & Spaceapes album is a good release too, as was of course the Burial - Street Halo EP.
This is a very, very healthy time for music I'd say. The UK Bass scene is thriving, multiple labels taking music in their own direction or all directions.

Absolutely right.
So far this years has been about the new Burial EP for me. Words can't express how much his music means to me and how much I love it.
Thank you Will.
And thank you 9 for releasing it.

This. Seriously. I still haven't grabbed a few of the Blackbox/clever releases that I wanted as a result.murky21 wrote:anyone who doesnt think its a healthy time for music is either not looking hard enough or getting distracted by all the bullshit imo...

It has always been like this. I got a lump on my leg due to carrying vinyl and placing the weight on it to prove this.murky21 wrote:anyone who doesnt think its a healthy time for music is either not looking hard enough or getting distracted by all the bullshit imo...

Record most feeling that got this week is first release on new 'left blank' label by vessel, backed with a peverelist remix
http://soundcloud.com/left_blank/sets/v ... p-lb001-1/
all four tracks are sick,
And as to artists and labels that are doing it for me now, list is long
Re: A healthy time for music
Imo mainstream music is worse now than I can remember, but music as a whole is really healthy atm and there is some great stuff coming out.
Re: A healthy time for music
I would totally agree with the OP, so much great music out right now in so many areas
I feel like I don't even have time to listen to all of it much less buy it! Can't even keep up, lol

Yeah if you just pay attention to the stuff you like, rather than worrying about the stuff you dont then you will open your eyes to ALOT of good music.murky21 wrote:anyone who doesnt think its a healthy time for music is either not looking hard enough or getting distracted by all the bullshit imo...

Re: A healthy time for music
OP is spot on!
so many labels and artists who have spanned out and doing their own thing, it's sick!
Blawan is on fire recently, really opened my eyes to a load more music. As has Swamp 81, hessle and the hemlock guys.
Getting into the scene 'late' always made me wish i was around in the early days, for the old DMZ cuts and that, but with all this new music pushing forward, it's sick!

2562 - Fever
FaltyDl - You Stand Uncertain
Africa Hitech - 93 Million miles
3 very recent releases that have gone to the top of my most played lists, add to this Black Sun, Burial, Can't Sleep, the Hessle comps Mosaic Vol 1, Resolution 653, Ramadanman / Pearson Sound Shackleton, The Weeknd (which was free!) and it's a great time to be into music. A lot of the mainstream stuff is kinda meh but that's always the case I tend to think we consider it a worse time for mainstream stuff because we forget how truly bad a lot of the mainstream stuff has always been we tend only to remember stuff that isn't that bad as we try and erase the fact that the really terrible stuff ever existed.
There is more stuff available now but I think the ratio of good to bad is probably about the same.

Re: A healthy time for music
For me I love the scene right now.
So much incredible dark half step stuff from Lx-one, sp:mc, district and sleeper, j Kenzo etc. Heavyweight stuff from distance, Tunnidge and all them crew
Wicked crossovers appearing with the dubstep, uk funky, house and techno scenes blurring into each other. Personally feeling shit like what Bok Bok has been up to bringing grime and funky together. Juke making an impact also
People like Coki, Kromestar and Jakes managing to keep wobbly dubstep interesting.
Some nice grime instrumentals about.
There's so much in the bass heavy area of electronic music to get excited about.

Re: A healthy time for music
go to your local record store and you will find enough good music
It's about dropping a track at the wrong speed, and it sounding better than the real thing.
Re: A healthy time for music
It makes me laugh when people say "Dubstep is Dead". There are plenty of great tunes getting released all the time.
