Does Deep still exist ??

Post by ketamine » Wed May 25, 2011 2:56 am

I use to cruise Beatport "Dubstep>Featured/Just Added" on Tuesdays for new music. In 2008 it was both sounds: deep rasta stuff, and Rusko /Caspa style stuff. Which I enjoyed. But now my music buying has grinded to a halt, last time was months ago , because week after week there are only robot transforming noises and most of it's not even good. Just noise for noise sake. Where is the Deep? Heck, I like 16 bit, Noisia remixes, 12th Planet, etc, so I'm not anti machines, but d@mn... there's no MUSIC to buy. I've left Beatport after listening to ALL the new material without buying anything, for weeks now and it's scaring me.

Discuss... Help...

Your searching sucks to begin with, Beatport is not what you should use for proper releases, and someone 'from 2008' should know that. Try Boomkat if you MUST do digital, and then head to the Younsgta thread for past/present shows for all your Deep needs, then continue to drop massive amounts of money which will render you both impoverished and likely malnourished. Also for some inexplicable reason they call Deep 'Dungeon' now so that thread also has some solid new producers and releases.

Also, I don't know what 'anti-machine' means but those all sound like terrible jump-up producers so... maybe your understanding of what deep is the real problem. I know for sure J:Kenzo - Roteks/Protected is on beatport and that's what a good example of what deep was, is and always will be.

I like Beatports easy interface. That's why.

But yeah, I keep hearing Boomkat so I will try them out tomorrow. Thanks

i can understand where your coming from (in terms of beatport being shit), but seriously, there are alot of decent tunes in terms of the Dungeon sound.

you just have to open your eyes and look alittle harder, its generally when you think you've been wasting your time for hours and thats when you tend to hit the jackpot.

I was going to say, how can you not of noticed the amount of "Deep" tunes in the scene atm.

Youngsta plays 2 hours of it every week. Distance is a good bet for some "Deep" vibes also, I think his sets are a bit more exciting than Youngstas.

Still smashing the Distance b2b Vivek set.

My wallet can barely cope with all the releases coming at the minute. We're not even half way through the year and to name a few we've had new albums from Kode9 and the Spaceape, Kryptic Minds, Kromestar and Swarms. There's been new 12"s from Medi, Tectonic, Black Box/Box Clever, Hyperdub, Osiris and there are forthcoming releases too (Medi Vol. 3/V.I.V.E.K/Silkie).

Look harder.

If you click on the mp3 links it will ask you if you want to buy mp3 or FLAC on the left-hand side.

Yeah but I don't think you get the tags so if you're going to be putting music onto an mp3 player you'll have to do them yourself. That's the issue I've had anyway.
