Re: Strings in Reason 4
i'll give you some things to think about.
most string samples contain a section of strings.
when you listen to a solo violin, do you hear them playing chords?
string instruments are not played like a keyboard.

I understand what you mean, but very idiotic comment.."when you listen to a solo violin, do you hear them playing chords?AJGR wrote:i'll give you some things to think about.

So guitars don't play chords?
Re: Strings in Reason 4
perhaps you mean a solo violin can't play a chord, and therefor only plays single notes?AJGR wrote:i'll give you some things to think about.

Re: Strings in Reason 4
guitars are a little of topic don't you think? yes you can play chords with a guitar but up until now, we were talking about orchestral strings.NRHc wrote:I understand what you mean, but very idiotic comment.."when you listen to a solo violin, do you hear them playing chords?AJGR wrote:i'll give you some things to think about.

Re: Strings in Reason 4
yes typically violins are played monophonic. i'm trying to get people to think about how the actual instrument is played before they just randomly hit chords. it's not going to sound realistic if thats what you want.Johnst wrote:perhaps you mean a solo violin can't play a chord, and therefor only plays single notes?AJGR wrote:i'll give you some things to think about.

Re: Strings in Reason 4
basically, with strings, chords are built from monophonic lines played on different instruments.
So if a (very basic) orchestra was to play an e-minor chord, the violins might play a high e, then a few cello's playing a low E, some viola's playing a G, and a fucking bassoon or something playing a B. So you get the chord e-minor (E G B [e, optional]) spanning across 3/4/5/6 etc different instruments all playing single notes; hence the full sound orchestra's give.

then i assume you would pan like an orchestra arrangement after?
i like hunrgy for lynching btw
Re: Strings in Reason 4
i reccomend going to see an orchestra- like right in the front row, its pretty sick. theres no eq or anything but yet it sounds lush- full. Instruments compliment each others frequencies, yet the most important thing is the panning, it enables you to hear for instance the harp playing some intricate notes even if the celloes are going full throttle cos its at your left hand side and theyre at the right.
in conclusion, pan a lot, especially if like me youre shit at eqing and mixing.
Also, the bassoon is the most important instrument in the orchestra

Cheers Anjin.
And yeah, pan wide and use reverb to blend it together. Overall compression is key to a degree.
