Re: When someone asks you "What music you into?"..
the last time I said "dubstep" the guy I was talking to said "nice!", namedropped mt eden and skrillex and put on some hardstyle brostep remix of an electro house tune on Youtube.Garden wrote:Brostep and Mt Eden

wow.... things must be really bad in the states!
i usually play dubstep... and i let the situation decide which kind. would be untruthful for me to say 'garage', and i think it's ridiculously non-descriptive to say 'bass music' - after all there would be no dance music without bass, in fact i'd say there'd be no pop music, no jazz, blues, reggae, dub, etc - so what the hell is 'bass music'? who came up with that joke term anyway?!
anyway, nothing wrong with 'dubstep', not five years ago, and not today. if ppl u come across dont know what that really means... teach em! and dont abandon the whole genre to 'skrillex and doctor p'. bass and space and pace will endure in dubstep, and two years from now, when the kiddies are tired of aforementioned artists and corresponding sound, you're gonna feel silly for not standing behind the genre that you're so obviously about. ... you're on dubstepforum ffs!

Bass Music is also another good thing to say, apart from when people think of any music containing a bass guitar.

and "Bass music" or "UK Bass" is as good a term as any. It's the thing that all these genres that stem from UK Garage (and eachother) have most in common: they all focus a great deal on the bass. The fact that it is "ridiculously non-descriptive" is actually what makes it a term I can use for the types of music I listen to.

I reply with Minimal, Techno and Deep House. I only get into Dubstep debates when I have the time.

I reply with Bass Music. Sometimes 'dark, heavy dubstep' to which I've heard in response 'oooo, so you like that boring snore-step shit, bro this Tomba banger is real dubstep not that deep, melodic, bullshit that feels like the sub is giving you a massage, which is only for pussies.' I triple-face-palmed, needless to say.

"There is a lot of tension in the music that carries a satisfactory darkness with it, but it's also lazy music. You don't have to dance hard to move with it. It was born with a reefer in it's gob."

Re: When someone asks you "What music you into?"..
uh no one really calls it "boring snore-step" but anyways try clicking on some users' soundcloud songs in their sigs for instance, about half the time "boring snore-step" would be an appropriate name... call it the backlash of the ongoing broification of more "mainstream" dubstep i supposehendramarshall wrote:care to link me some? ive never heard anything these ubersnobs listen to under this moniker...Ayatollah wrote:"boring snore-step"Staley wrote:I reply with Bass Music. Re: When someone asks you "What music you into?"..
i say dubstep and then it usually ends up in an argument as they dont know who mala is and think flux pavillion or someone like that is the best dubstep producer.
