When the root note of a melody/track is mentioned is it the moniker of the key you're using. i.e. if I'm using A minor would the root be A?

The root note is generally the note you keep coming back to throughout the melody. My musical knowledge is rather limited, but I would think that no, A minor is your root note.

the root note is the note u could play thru without actually sounding wrong at any moment.. with a feeling of completion...

thats how i feel it.. u just know it usually..

but u know what... use ur ears..
