I've been feeling a bit unfit lately, but can't stand gyms. All about being outside or doing something fun, or best- a mixture of the two like mountain biking or climbing.

My main piece of advice is don't expect things to be easy if you want to see changes. From the casual gym-goers at my gym, there's far too many I've seen go a couple of times a week and do absolutely nothing of any worth while they're there, not that I'm a complete sted-head, about 5'11" and 11-something stone, but I'm seeing big changes after a couple of months of real effort compared to 6-or-so months of pissing around. Could never be properly hench though, wouldn't look right on me, plus I don't have the drive to maintain things perfectly.

I see so many people not be "serious" on the gym. I've seen big differences on my 6 months of gym going. I've lost 11kg and I'm not a fatty anymore. Just hang in there and HAVE PATIENCE. Gym going/bodybuilding is all about patience. I've seen many people end because they didn't have enough patience and didn't see results quickly. It goes quick in the beginning but it's gonna get hard

Also, it's good to set up at goal. For example, a goal to drop to a special weight or lift a special weight!

This year (now 21 in a few weeks) I decided to start running to the gym every night (Treadmill is the most boring thing in the world, fuck that), about 1.5 miles each way, so bought some sweet K-Swiss running trainers (they're so comfortable) and for the first couple of months I was fine, but after that, I'd barely get half-way to the gym before my shins would proper hurt again. Got a feeling I might roll my feet out slightly when I land, but other than that, I'm not so sure.
Any advice?

^^^ I was getting pains in my shins, it even happened if I walked quickly for more than five minutes. It almost felt like the tendons where slapping against my shins.
I stopped running on concrete.(well pretty much altogether lol, still go on the bike though)

Try running on soft clay or grass, or switching to a toe-to-toe running style. Shin splints happen, as im sure you know, from impacts caused when your heel hits the ground. i've always found running extremely hard, its almost certainly from the way i walk/run, my feet used to turn in when i was a kid, wearing inner soles did pretty much nothing so i taught myself to turn my feet out when i walk and now i walk pretty much fine
but when i run i think because of the shape of my legs, i put a lot of pressure on my shins, for a long time now i just haven't ran because after a certain amount of time my shins cramp so hard its impossible to run, i get lumps or knots forming in the muscle down my shin

yeah i cant run very well, fucked my toes up playing rugby when i was young, two of the joints died in my toes and now the ball joints are square instead of round
going to do rowing and cycling instead

And thanks Noam for the translation! Don't think I can do some of them things though since I just had an operation and it'll take like 6 months for my stomach muscles to be kinda repaired.
Anyone recommend anything that doesn't work the stomach muscles too hard?? I need to start getting fit man.

Are you looking to work the whole body? http://stronglifts.com/stronglifts-5x5- ... g-program/ ? I'm not too good on how all the muscles are "put together" but I think that none of those should work the stomach too much.

My gym has just got a couple of those Spinning Class bikes, with some guy on a video display telling me to "feel the vibe" constantly. Come off sweating like a beast after one of those sessions, people getting out of your way and shit, I must look like I've experienced some real sexual abuse at the back of the gym.
