list of quality, cheap plugins...

Post by samurai » Mon May 30, 2011 6:53 pm

more specifically effects. and by cheap I mean under 100 €£$ whatever.

well anyway here's some to get started:

d16 you can get any of the individual plugs for €39 (chorus, reverb, vintage tube distortion, bit crusher, phaser, distortion), or you can get the lot for €179.

ddmf I really love these plugins. you can grab them individually for €29, or €99 the whole bundle.

valhalladsp these two reverbs are fucking brilliant. they go at 50 each which is a steal. plus the free freqecho one of my personal favourite delays.

apulsoft apqualizr

audiodamage don't really need to say anything about the audiodamage plugs. everybody already knows they're awesome and cheap.

here are some plugs I don't own but have heard good stuff about. can't talk about the quality first hand but....

voxengo don't own any of the voxengo plugs but have heard great things about a lot of them. a lot of their stuff is in the sub 100 price bracket as well.

mellowmuse again haven't used these but some hip-hop guys I know think they're awesome. I don't know tbh. maybe worth a look.

the glue apparently this is great.

anyway please add.

Stillwell Audio

Airwindows (mac only). thanks for reminding me of these. remember I bookmarked them ages ago just before I got my macbook and totally forgot about them. have heard them mentioned scarcely on a couple of forums, but it's always good things I've read. think I'll download the freebies to give these a tryout.

ToneBoosters used to be Jeroen Breebart http://www.jeroenbreebaart.com/ but now rebranded as toneboosters. the prices are ridiculous. 9 plugs for €20.

Sugar Bytes WOW filter is €79/$99.

Sinevibes (mac only) these guys only starting making plugins like maybe little over a year ago. everytime I check them out it seems like they've added another plug, or have totally rehauled an old one. I personally love these plugins and it doesn't hurt that the UI's are gorgeous.

Ohm Force surprised these were mentioned by somebody. I forgot about them tbh and somebody posting WOW filter somehow just reminded me of them. a lot of people like these plugins. haven't personally spent too much time with them as the GUIs drive me nuts (in a bad way).

http://www.smassey.com/au.html free version of tapehead. massey makes plugins for Pro Tools which I know most people aren't on. but if you are check out their stuff. http://www.masseyplugins.com/plugins/tapehead nice and cheap.

For those who are on a mac, the airwindows plugins are very good value - in fact there are a large number of plugins there that are completely free.

I'm always a big supporter of using logic's internal plugs and working quickly, but i don't think i can mix ANYTHING any more without the camel crusher, k-phaser, massey tapehead, izotope vinyl, and the stillwell rocket, event horizon, & vibe eq. The 1st 4 are free; the last 3 are $50 each.

Great topic. These affordable plugs avoid some of the hick-ups of less well developed freebies, but won't break the bank like some of the big boys. I was hoping to put a list of these affordable but effective plugs, a kind of cheap payware alternative to pat's freeware studio.

Hopefully this thread will cover it. Will make a solid contribution here, soon.

Also, am jumping into the d16 group buy. Great deal!

I think so.

The reverb alone is worth more than the bundle costs, and the limiter is one of the cleanest I've heard.

Download the demo, see what you think! I love em personally

Just like to point out that d16 still has that group buy going, it is 4 plugs for €39 right now, with is like $13 each. Might get to 5 for €39. Just had a sound design session last night and made some incredibly quality sounds with redoptor, decimort, devastor, and toraverb. Absolutely INCREDIBLE TEXTURE.

New AD plug just released....

Panstation: http://www.audiodamage.com/effects/prod ... ?pid=AD028

It's an Auto-Pan... which, while you might is not a sexy plugin, I can't tell you how much I've been waiting for this. I use AutoPans all the time, problem is - most AutoPan plugs out there suck and sound t3h boring.
This one kicks - check the audio samples at the bottom of the page. Definitely sounds like a fun one to automate live with a delay slapped on after it in the chain.

I just bought it and have been playing with it. Tasty.

interesting. I was reading on analogindustries how the next plug was going to be more "normal" than what they usually produce. tbh I don't really use autopans that much, if at all. might have to look into this a bit because all of AD's stuff is quality. this could be one of those things that you didn't know you needed until you start using it...

and again +1 on the d16 group buy. anybody who doesn't have these plugs should very seriously consider checking them out.

Autopanner is trip as a device. I know what you mean, like why in the world would I need this, but then you use try it out, and you're like, I likely would never have done that (whatever it is) if you weren't using it. Really like it for madlibish oldschool tom fooolery.

And don't forget Pan Cake:

Totally free from a great company that is moving and shaking.
