Re: Help Me Make That Sound - 2011.

Post by cmgoodman1226 » Wed Jun 01, 2011 3:49 pm

Ok now I have a couple sounds that I would like to make.

The first sounds is the bass sound that comes in at about 0:30. Now I can tell it's bassically a bass sound with not much mids in it, mainly a sub bass with some low harmonics, and he defenitly uses an exciter to create some extra harmonics in the highs. So it sounds to me like it's a sound with basically just Highs and bass, but the patches I've created thus far sound absolutely nothing like it.

The second part I would like to learn is the lead that comes in along with the bass line around 0:30. It's almost like a chorused supersaw but just sounds way more complex than that. Any ideas?

Another sound that I would like to create is :

It's the sound that starts right at the beginning of this track. It sounds pretty simple but I have no idea where to begin...

First post, just joined the forum, glad to be a part of this. Anyways, I have been hearing for lack of a better description, a stuttering effect applied to bass. Artists like Mim0sa and Gladkill tend to use it frequently in their tracks. Seems similar to step sequencing, but I am missing something. Here are a couple of examples:

[ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WcEE4FX_ ... re=related ] The part I'm talking about is at about 2:04.

[ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFYf7C-k ... re=related ] And again here at 1:25

I have been trying to get similar results using Massive's performer, but it's not quite right. Any suggestions?

Thanks

It could be done by having a slow wobble but a fast gate on the sound. But my preferred method for this is to just make it part of the wobble like this:

Is that a 808 or something made using a synth? cannot get anything like it with an 808. Tried with overdrive, comp, lp filter and playing around with the attack and some reverb but something is wrong:)

Don’t worry about people stealing an idea. If it’s original, you will have to ram it down their throats.

Stuttering wobbles are pretty easy in Gross Beat :) Some of the presets are almost perfect :)

Big Chocolate??

Post by Dgavfinn » Wed Jun 01, 2011 9:22 pm

Ive seen millions of threads asking about excision/datsik/skrillex basses, but what i want to learn is how to make Big Chocolate bass sounds, especially at 0:20 in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NeYO3fec3cc

i know he uses ohmicide and (maybe) albino 3 and he says he processes the basses a lot (he said so in a vlog he does), but i'm not quite sure where to start

can anyone help?

How do you make screaming vocals into a WAH sound?

Post by WHITEPOPE » Wed Jun 01, 2011 9:27 pm

I would like to learn how to combine the "yah, wah" pacman sound theory substituting with screaming vocals from a hardcore/metal band. so it would be screaming vocals but everytime it just sounds "yeeeah" and end cuts out quick (fast attack). heres some examples

the vocal part at 3:13

any ideas?
if you make it post it back here

that my friend is a reese. just search up neurofunk and reeses and youll get a common thing about them.

their pretty easy once you understand them but really its just a reese (2 saws detuned) and the distorted with your favorite distortion and play with the wet and dry so you can get a clean distorted sound. From their your gonna use various filters (notches seem to be very effective for me) and automation.

this is the biggest thing automation cause its making the bass move constantly.

Ummmm im trying to think of things to add, maybe later if no one has answered or anything ill send you links :D

Im just looking for assistance in figuring out how to replicate that plucky synth line heard starting at points 0:00, 1:37, and then again in the outtro. It sounds like a type of string instrument... I guess I'm mainly interested in what type of instrument, synth it is, and how to get it sounding haunted yet sparkly.

Yes it's a Skrillex song, and no, I'm not asking how to get uberbass.

his basses are a reese/whomp/growl kind of deal with a shit ton of resampling and layering. but yes, same techniques as a building a standard reese.

a big key to his sound is phasers/flangers/notch filters. using any/all of those with the wet amounts very very low will give you interesting scooping/metallic sounds... the trick is bringing out the resonance without making the overall sound too harsh or muddy. lots and lots of trial and error is needed.

Sounds like there is not much going on in the mid-freg area, and more in the higher spectrum, so try EQ-ing out a little bit of the middle, load up a synth, and start messing with the waveforms. Oh, and there is some glide on it, but not much. ;)

I like it's nostalgic and almost spacey quality. What sort of waveform or processing would I be looking at, roughly?
I have created a patch for you. Now I know the sound is off a bit but I think I captured the overall ambience you're looking for.

In addition to the detuned oscillators, There are a few other things going on. There is most defenitly a good deal of wet reverb on the sound. Also, it sounds like there is an envelope controlling the cutoff frequencey, so at the attack of the note, a Low pass filter is opened up, but as the note continues to hold, the filter closes more and more. On this filter there also seems to be a good deal of resonance. The amp envolope also sounds like it has only a longer decay but a medium sustain so as each note is held, the volume starts to decrease. Sorry if sounds nothing like what you want.
Fantastic mate, really appreciated. That's a really good replication tbh, but what sound-waves are the oscillators, just sines waves or..?

Thanks a lot.

The waves I used were a pure saw wave and a part saw/part square wave in the Massive VST. I detuned them against each other and also added some extra voices (one of the features in Massive) and detuned those voices against each other as well. It seems like the synth in the song is more out of tune though, but if I were to detune the oscillators more, it started taking away their clarity. My only guesses on how he does that is he either detuned the whole synth from the rest of the track, or used a very slow envelope or LFO to modulate the pitch of the whole synth. If you know how I can up load print screens onto the site I would be more than happy to post it so you can see exactly what I did.

id say try a standard distortion plugin with a vocoder, reverb and possibly some kind of filter plugin like a slight notch or something im not sure.

It's a supersaw. Basically its a few saw waves detuned against each other, and one an octave up. I have put together a patch for you. Now it doesn't sound exactly like it but I feel like I've come pretty close. Keep in mind that one of the reasons this sounds so interesting is because there are a bunch of different parts going on at once that add to the harmony, so the patch alone that I made will not sound nearly as cool. Anyhow, I made this in massive in fl studio. I used 3 detuned saw waves. one an octave up, and one at minus 20 cents, and the 3rd at minus 40 cents. I Then used Massive's voice section to add more voices and detuned them against each other so that the sound gets bigger. I sent it through a low pass filter with high resonance, added some reverb to it, used an exciter (camel space) to add some higher harmonics, through on some light distortion, and then EQ'd it (I cut out a bit at 1300 hz with a narrow Q and boosted it a bit around 6500 hz with a wider Q).

Soundcloud

Hope this fits the bill.
