I don't mean the actual production, I mean the laying of the basslines.
So,
Stepper?
Pitch modulation?
Side chaining?
Or just playing the notes?

depends on the articulation. punchy 808/stab bassline i play on keyboard. Long notes with modulators creating the rhythm, i draw in by hand.
what i've lately been doing is playing basslines by routing modwheel to pan btwn modulation sources, and rocking the modwheel during playback of midi notes. when i think i know what i wanna record, i take a pass while recording modwheel automation. fun.

If we are talking more musical stuff I play them on my keyboard, and then tighten the midi up...
If we are talking fucked up robo noise, I just pencil that shit in on the piano roll, and might record some midi automation for it...
Just do what works for you/bassline.

iv just started going that route and boy does it save a lot of time, money, and effort. why pay top dollar and put in all that effort to make a bass line when you can have woman and children make them for you in sweat shops...its a no brainer.

Different for each tune, latest idea was a simple Analogue with Saw and Square.
Panning, Phasing, Overdrive, Saturation, filtering, ping pong delay... It sounds dirty..

By "hand" for basslines, or even long sustained notes. Then automate at will/if needs be, especially the latter.

Completely different for each tune. Unless I am making the bassline the focus of the tune (and that happens very, very rarely), then I'll construct the bass around the main body of the tune to accentuate it. So it depends on what the meat of the tune is really

I usually assign and LFO to the filter cut-off.
It's really weird; one of those obscure things I do.

I`ve been playing around with creating simple saw or sine basses and running them through DBlue Glitch.
Select the Retrigger function.
Setup a good bass rythmn.
Set the speed and length to taste.
Automate the s.change and pitch knobs.
Run it through Camel Phat.
Other effects as you please.

When I've got a 'neurofunk' (stupid term) reece going, I normally just record for about 8 bars and use glide to its advantage... I just play random shifting notes (relatively sticking to key). Then, after automating it with a filter (eg bandpass/rejects work well with a combination of a dry signal, some interference and phasing occurs which is never a bad thing hehe), it bounce it out into audio, and chop it up to my liking. There's a lot of luck involved....
