I do notice my followers seems to fluctuate by about one on a daily basis, up, down, up...I like it because most of the people who remain will hopefully just be following me for my music so it gives me a realistic idea of how many 'fans' I have. Probably have to divide it by at least 4 to see how many would buy your stuff and see you live though...maybe that's just me

Lol, I used to get pissed off like OP when those fools making techno would follow me and then unfollow me 2 hours later...that shit happens everyday though. People unfollow people all the time.
I guess its understandable if you want people to know about your music from doing the mass-follow thing but for me I feel I'd be looked at better without doing that. It should be a gradual process as you improve as a producer you obtain more and more followerz .

Its not like they would listen to your music anyway. I think I follow twenty odd people, am followed by about 60. Its probably a lot better that way, at least if i put up some half-baked bullshit its not privately shared with 4304 people that will never buy my tunes on principal. I honestly think you have one opportunity, perhaps two if you are Really Lucky to make a good impression, with all the music out there thats all youve got, why waste it on some 'plz comment back' wasteland echochamber shit? Honestly tho, I really don't look at my plays/followers/downloads/favorited/so on...
It is however a pat on the back when I go to soundcloud and see I've got comments/followers/downloads/etc...

Honestly, it isn't my goal. I'm making music because I like it, if people don't dig it, well bummer but I man up and still keep on doing what I like.

I listen to peoples tracks on soundcloud more than I listen to releases and always comment when I find something I like. Sometimes though Ill check my own and ill have comments back from those people and I feel like emailing them to say that I wasnt fishing for comments I just really like that track. Hard to know peoples motives with places like that.

I never do anything because I feel like 'oh they commented me i gotta comment them back' and I can usually spot the people who are doing that stuff...

But sometimes if I see someone frequently popping up and listening to my tunes and supporting what I do I check em out... least that can be done, and you develop an a n b with your listeners you wouldnt have had pre-social networking days...

ive found some of the most solid music i can think of that way.

Stop focusing on something like followers on Soundcloud, instead try to get good followers who actually give you feedback. Put more energy into your productions rather than promoting (in the initial stage) and the followers will come magically, believe it or not.
