[Dark and Filthy] (HELP ME FIX MY SNARE)FuhNetIk - Claw

Post by FuhNetIk » Mon Jun 06, 2011 9:32 am

Soundcloud

The furthest i've stepped into brostep territory - lemme know what you guys think :corndance:

EDIT: Ive gotten a bit of feedback on the snare being a bit too deep and punchy (IMPROSSEEBLE) - here is an alternate edit with a sharper snare - http://soundcloud.com/corbin/claw-alternate-snare

Good old brostep :) Bass is spot on for me, great variations. Something about the snare for me though, maybe sharpen with eq? personal taste though I guess. Great work :)

Snares are my no.1 enemy haha. I end up altering them far too much and having to start over :corntard: . Big up for the kind words :W:

Kinda reminds me of that Chrispy remix of a Whitechapel song I heard a while ago. Hope that's not where you took the sound ideas from lol. Regardless, very nice sounds and well mixed in the soundscape, kudos. The snare isn't all that bad, I always struggle with it myself. Here are a few tips though: EQ, of course. Also if you send all your drum pieces to a drum send, exclude the snare from it and just have it link to the master channel like normal, that way you can keep it independent volume and compression-wise to ensure it's still as loud as possible. Don't use too much reverb, because it can soak it and drown it, and it sounds like you might've used a bit too much even still. Lastly, insert a smaller single kick under each snare to give it oomph, and/or add another muted kick under each snare and sidechain it so everything comes down a bit for the snare to poke over.

Now that I just wrote that short essay lol mind giving my tracks some feedback? :D

The snare is the run of the mill cut below 150~ hz, peak 200, slight midrange dip and slight treble rise EQ very very very light reverb on the snare (like 10 percent w/d). And im not sure that i've even heard that track you mentioned before XD - thanks for the feedback

Im really digging your Song of Storms Dubstep - cool stuff, gotta love those synth lines.

That snare needs some high end - put a nice snappy clap in the layer or a actual snare (a non-electronic one).

It sounds so drowned out in the mix due to all the mid-range of it! Snares should be bright and colourful not just there for the sake of it.

Ah good, well check that song out too then since it's a cool one lol. And yeah well that's all fine and well, but like the guy just above me said that I forgot to mention, make sure to layer a clap. A real snare I'm sure will also do the trick, but I always use a clap, turned down a good amount but still audible for the "smack" sound, with a trimmed tail so it doesn't "smack" for a prolonged period, because that's when it starts turning into a wimpy "splat" after all the effects and compression haha.

And hey thanks! Yeah everyone loves that track, I wish it wasn't my most popular because it was a "just for shits" song, but oh well.

Hey, the update you did on the track sounds a lot better! The snare really cuts through. The snares that I like to use come from the Vengeance Clubsound Essentials 3 sample pack...they have some great snares and kicks, I would check it out if I were you man.
