Spanish Dubstep / Gypsystep?

Post by WiseEyes » Tue Jun 07, 2011 3:00 pm

Well, I've been working on creating a Flamenco / Dubstep fusion and calling it Spanish Dubstep, or maybe Gypsystep or something like that. I've been basically taking songs from my friends who are flamenco artists and chopping and ripping till I got to dubstep. Most of my dubstep stuff is pretty laid back, but with a flamenco feel and some strumming, etc. has an interesting feel.

Here's some songs I have on the cloud to get an idea of what I'm talking about...

Soundcloud

and...

Soundcloud

I've also got some stuff that marks other parts of the mediterranean and eastern styles, trying to bring dub step that way :D

Anyone wanna help define the genre?

you havent created a new genre mate, it's just dubstep but with a flamenco influence

tru, a subgenre would mean there was more than one artist was on that tip

well no, a subgenre is when it becomes a clear departure from the original sound, seeing as the only real 'rules' to dubstep are the tempo and the use of sub-bass i would say that your tune is still very much dubstep, putting a bit of flamenco guitar on top of a dubstep beat doesnt instantly mean its a new genre

...not that i'm knocking your tune mate, i'm merely dealing with semantics

hardly, i havent said anything nasty about the guy or his tune, i simply stated that he hadn't invented a new genre and that this thread belongs in the dubs forum
