^^ Pretty much this.

I make tracks. I make DJ mixes. I put them online. If people like them enough to comment/follow me, then fair play. But if they don't, then it's not like I'm going to suddenly stop what I'm doing.

i don't really worry too much about followers, i only follow people who's music i like, and most of the followers i have are also following 10,000 other randomers, comments are good though

Very sorry to dig up one of your threads from like, June but anyway here goes. I don't produce Dubstep but this discussion popped up in a google search. I would just like to say, its fucking annoying but, I am doing this at the minute to raise awareness for my music (although I don't message people privately to tell them to listen that is just fucking awful) and it works pretty well as annoying as it is, the way I see it is, music is just a game of "scratch my back I'll scratch yours", you follow someone, they follow you back, you comment them, they comment you back, so on and so forth. You may say "oh well no you just make good music and then the followers will come", yes in some cases but lets be honest with ourselves, SoundCloud isn't about that, its a big stupid popularity contest that everyone just seems to use so I believe, you've just got to play the game and fall victim to the SoundCloud system (yeah it rhymed, what of it?).

I currently have something stupid like 560/570 followers, before I started following lots of people I had 200 followers, the way I see it is that its 360/370 new people who now know about my music and can potentially become fans, and that would result in word being spread. Someone said earlier, you can make shit music and have lots of followers, quite right you see it all the time, I'm fucking one of them LOL, but you could also make the best music in the world and no one might ever hear it so whats the good in that? At least the guy who is lets say a beginner putting sub-par music up is taking some initiative and putting himself out there to be heard would you not agree? Its a big industry and everyone new who is added (which is daily) is but a drop in the ocean so you have got to try your hardest to make your splash bigger than the last guys and the next guys and with SoundCloud being one of the largest music communities on the internet, where better? Just the way I see it, sorry about the extremely long message but at least thanks for reading ey lol, also, check me out (I do house music usually) http://www.soundcloud.com/riproar.

Just speaking my mind lol, people can reply with what they want but if they only have the mental capacity to insult me then there's just no point because I've heard it all before as will have everyone, I really don't give a shit lol.

Haha no dude not you, but yeah I can see it coming, you come to expect when you have an opinion that differs from the majority of the people in the discussion, tend not to let it bother me.

Don't mind the followers, if. I don't. See at least a bit of something I like, I don't follow. You might have lots of followers, but most of them don't give a shit and won't listen to your tunes.

Also people commenting saying 'nice. Rate my tracks' do my fire in too. I want people to enjoy what I do, not use it to boost their views or followers.

Just received a comment on one of my songs saying "just had a fat party and played your song and we loved it. Check out my stuff too. " and wondered what the hell the song isnt even for DL.

then i proceeded to look at their comments.

When I started getting followers and folks listening to my tracks I got attitude from someone for not following back.
Called me some nasty stuff for not following others.

i have the opposite, one of my followers has become obsessed with my music, whats worse is he looks like a 40 year old Brummie, ive started ignoring his constant messaging and considered muting him, but i think the latter is going too far, he calls himself GT...
