Re: Rising sound?

Post by Dreadfunk » Tue Jun 07, 2011 7:32 pm

Yeah, those kinds of sounds are always made with the pitch rising.

Get your standard metallic sound, and use an envelope on the pitch. You could do it in MIDI with a pitch bend too.

It sounds cool if you have an LFO on a Band Reject filter so the sound kinda warbles as it rises up in pitch.

There's a Reso masterclass video where he shows you exactly how to make this sort of sound.

most of my risers are just reese's with lots of delay and reverb, with an envelope rising 2-4 octaves over 4 or 8 bars.

Unwinding bass

Post by greggianopoulos001 » Wed Jun 08, 2011 3:50 am

What up i know porter robinson is no dubstepper himself but alot of recent producers have been glitching out there tracks from all sorts of genre's with this unwinding bass sound i cant fully grasp. if any producers who know what there doing could help explain this a little more in depth for me that would be great.
1:13 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6I10SEJF6c ITS NOT HOW TO SOUND LIKE HIM THREAD EITHER.. this can be used in many different situations so i want to learn and expand my work, thanks.

i honestly dont know but the first thing i would try would be to pitch down and simultaneously slow the lfo rate. could be wrong but thats the first thing that comes to mind when i hear it...

i actually just saw a tutorial about making this effect in massive and it's pretty much this. it's over at massivesynth.com if you want to take a look at the specifics ("rippling effect" i think is what they call it), doesn't seem too complicated.

How to make that staticy fuzz sound??

Post by Lectric » Wed Jun 08, 2011 11:58 pm

I wanna know how to make that staticy, fuzzy, almost white noise like fuzzyness that gives tracks an analog feel as if they were recorded off vinyl. An example of this is the fuzzy crackling in like almost all of Burial's tunes. Does anyone know how to make this or where to find em. ive scoured the net for loops of it but im not sure what the real term is so i dont really find anything helpful. cheeyarz

What DAW are you using?

I know Ableton's distortion effect has an option to add a crackling fuzzy sound.

You can grab vinyl crackle samples off the net. Alternatively iZotope vinyl is a free plugin that will do the same thing and degrade the quality of the channel you stock it on too make it sound consistent with the old feel if you want.

Just YouTube2Mp3 it then EQ out the low freq. If this is the sound you're looking for.

Or just Google for some samples.
