Why not become a studio musician instead?Turnipish Thoughts wrote:How incredibly long it takes to get an idea from idea form into a decently listenable thing. basically the logistics is what i hate. Everything else i love.

well u could just as easily jam out a sound with a preset and a keyboard as with a guitar. i dont think that comparison was very equal considering the huge differences in producing vs just jamming a riff on a guitar, which as i said would be compared to jamming a riff on your keyboard with a preset...Turnipish Thoughts wrote:How incredibly long it takes to get an idea from idea form into a decently listenable thing. Re: Things that annoy you most about production...
yeh i didn't explain myself too well. Basically my biggest gripe with producing music is the technicality of it all. I know computer production is basically having an instrument that can make ANY sound in existence, which is amazing obviously. But i always find myself quite annoyed at how complicated things can get.
I know you can just sit down with a Vst synth and jam out on your keyboard and i do do this a lot. But you know when you have a sound in your head, like a riff or a beat e.t.c. What gets me is how tediously long-winded it is to get that idea to a point I'm happy with.
With a guitar for example, your ideas are going to be constrained to the possibilities of what a guitar can bring. In other words they're going to be relatively 'simpler' than an idea you may have in regard to EDM production, which due to the scope of possibility will by proxy be more complicated to realize within your 'instrument'.
Thats my gripe, well not a gripe as such, more an annoyed acceptance that there's always going to be a technical buffer with the creative process in making electronic music due to having to wade through so much interface. Its never as pure as picking up an instrument, closing your eyes and sinking into sound for a bit.

Forgetting what i'm doing when I'm stoned & producing.
Like I get excited about an idea, start in and get knobbing only to forget what it's all for.

That is an excellent idea. I just hope it won't lead to covering your walls in jibberish notes and becoming a hermit haha

Clocking up over 50 hours on a project and having to drop it into the 'Work in progress (never going to finish I've wasted my time again FML)' folder
Trying to get on MTV is like trying to be employee of the month at McDonald's.

don't forget them, plenty of times i've been working on something and an element from a going nowhere track has slotted in perfectly into what i'm working on now.ToxicBass wrote:Clocking up over 50 hours on a project and having to drop it into the 'Work in progress (never going to finish I've wasted my time again FML)' folder

In FL Studio, having to turn down the volume everytime I listen to a sample in the browser because my projects are so quiet.
Also I've spent about 6-7 years doing this and have very little to show for it

What version are you using? That never even happened to me in 8 xDwub wrote:- In FL Studio, when you've got the pattern window open (F5) and then you decide to open the browser (F8) to have a look through. You find a sample you want, and press F5 again to open the pattern window BUT OH NOEZ because you're in the browser, F5 actually loads the sample you're listening to onto the channel that is selected, often fucking up what you already had.
You'd think I'd learn, but noooooooo I still do this at least once every other session
I hate when, you've got all the necessary parts to build a track, but then the actual structure fucks you -_-
And how in the past, I'd have too many parts to use in a single tune, and now, I rarely have enough and always require samples to get me going

structure structure structure

Re: Things that annoy you most about production...
The think I hate most is the end where I bounce the song and send it to people to give me feedback.
But it's also the most important part. It's a double edged sword!

When I have like massive open, and I go to open up a new vst, but I accidently selected replace instead of insert, and a default vst overlayed my massive sound that I forgot to save. Happens to me waaaay to often.

When my file names end up looking like Project (crashed)(crashed)(crashed).logic. Sucks when some plugins get finnicky
Re: Things that annoy you most about production...
Read the flstudio thread. Sample preview can be assigned to a mixer channel, you can set that channels volume however you want. Also can audition samples into fx chains this way, if you so desire. Gnaw what I'm saying?nruen wrote:In FL Studio, having to turn down the volume everytime I listen to a sample in the browser because my projects are so quiet.
