wanna know about the aphex twin-y very high pitched percussive sounds used in the beginnings of songs like this:
I find them very aurally stimulating, hopefully they don't get too destroyed in compression.

The only place I know to start is high passed, high resonance, very low attack and probably decay. I know the sub bass gets so much attention in this genre, I think that high frequency sounds like these would make for a more unique tune.

try chopping a midi note into 6ths and then use flanging, phasing or panning automation
Do you say zerbaman? Or do you say zebraman?

First off, this track is HUGE! :n: Starting at 4:30ish, anyone have an inkling of knowledge about how he may have went about going spastic like that! Its so smooth sounding, but yet it sounds ultra chopped up, reminds me of how Squarepusher used to pull stuff like this off. Any ideas?

I know I'm going to be shot down real quick for asking this...and quite frankly I am almost afraid to ask haha, but I will anyway.

I would really love to know how to make the sounds in "WEEKENDS" ( yes by skrillex  )

Now if you're still reading this, I have tried sooo many times to recreate the sounds in the song.

Here's my re-make of a minute of the song with all my sounds and this is as close as I got (got carried away and almost re-made the whole rest of the song haha):

http://www.esnips.com/doc/ea50def1-aadc ... -remake%29

Thats as close as I got I am still trying to create the initial "whomps"? i guess you could call them, other than that the screeches and such are pretty close.

(I'm using ni massive and fl studio at the moment)

Thanks!

the bassline in this tune fits so well with the sub bass. I know how to make sounds like the one in this song, but making the sound work with the sub the way this does fails for me. I notice the sub and the bassline play different notes, yet complement eachother. And the midrange is more treble than midrange and was probably hi-passed.
I think I been skipped. What I'm going for is how to get the high pitched noise to work so well with the subbass.

@automaticmeatrifle your remake sounds pretty spot on to me. just a tad on the empty side, though.

Layer them? :6:
There's def a little bit of distortion or something going on with the subbass(maybe a LP'ed wave on top with dist), I don't know if that is whats making them sound good together, but...

MRK1 Sound

Post by MoonUnit » Tue Jun 21, 2011 1:53 am

Been listening to a lot of MRK1 lately and have been appreciating his simple, yet seemingly signatured style.
Was wondering what methods he goes about to create this...
The sound I'm thinking of is featured in tunes such as Frank, Cardiac Arrest, and Dirty Dubstep Music.

He likes his reverb and does it proper, at least from what I can hear. Almost sounds like the mid range is two stacked oscillators slightly phased that helps widen the sound a bit.

What kinda distortion is he using though?

Cheers ;-)

Goin at it in Malstrom using a Saxaphone wave in my oscillator with attack and decay riding above the decay to give it that quick oomf
scratch dat filter envelope is much better for the oomf

yea was going to say that malstrom can come up with some simple yet interesting sounds and also some really complex ones as well. i think i have gotten something similar in malstrom. haven't experimented with it in a while
