New DAW

Sup people , been using fl studio for the the longest time now and im kind of bored with it, so i think i might switch to a new one, just to do something different and get a new perspective on new sounds , what would you consider to be a good switch

Renoise. Just get the latest demo and sit down with it and do the official youtube tutorials a few times. Totally new perspective, like you're looking for.

You're asking a very open question; what works for one person might not necessarily work for someone else. It's the same no matter what subject you're asking about on the Internet. If you went onto a car forum and asked what the best supercar was, you'd get pages of people arguing over what was best and why, a couple of people discussing the merits of red vs. silver in terms of paint choice, a couple of people recommending motorcycles and at least one person saying "Mate, just fucking walk"

DAWs are no different, everyone likes different things for different reasons. My advice would be to sample as many as you can from the demos available, then pick which one you like best;

Switching isnt going to give you a new sound, its going to put you back at square one relearning your workflow from scratch.

Makes sense... You could just try defying your pattern though...

Like, if yu start with drums usually, start with synths for a change...

At the end of the day though, no matter what DAW you use, a sine waves a sine wave, and the compression ratios will still be the same...

Its not the workflow that makes a sound, its you, all Im getting at really. If your comfortable in your workflow and feel bored, new techniques might be in order. Being comfortable in your daw to the point its lost its flare is actually an advantage though... means you get things done fast.

reason/record opens up some new flow and thinking for sure...

but i would definitely recommend you get reason and record since your used to FL which is a full fledged daw and reason is not really a full daw without record. but together they definitely are. and then you could still use fl if need be.

ya, started out on fruity for about a year and a half (was dicking about with it for a lot longer) and got pretty comfortable with it. then i tried the ableton demo and after about an hour of going thru the built in tutorials, was completely blown away by how fast and open Live's workflow was and haven't looked back since.

it's definitely true that choosing a daw is different for everyone and you should try a bunch out first and see for yourself what feels good. if it were me and i had a few hundred bucks to spend on a new daw to shake things up, though, i'd probably pick reason just for all the different routing possibilities. i fucked with it for a bit on my friend's machine and it was kinda wild. it can make you think about building up sounds in a different way if you get deep into it.

yupp thats why i love reason. i researched a lot before i bought my daw and reason just caught my attention for some reason. plus i read that it was excellent to learn with not only because it is somewhat "user friendly" but its so modular that it teaches you the basics in a good way.

record 1.5 is on its way to me as we speak. i cant wait till it arrives so i can actually deal with audio and not just midi and have more of a full fledged daw. also the mixer in record is the absolute tits.

If you want something different, in terms of workflow, ableton is the most different. I don't think renoise is all that different than fl. Fl's heart is still a graphical horizontal rather than vertical tracker. Same shit, different direction.

I kind of know what you mean OP, at one point a year or two ago, I just had it with fruity's grayness. Like I just couldn't look at the windows anymore, it really got to me bro. I know that sounds stupid, but it is for real. I've used several daws before but fl for a while, so I borrowed someone's computer and tried another daw, what a piece of shit! FL rules man. Fast fast workflow, and inspirational when you want it.

Sometimes you've got to wander a bit to realize what you've got. I'd spend as little as you can on that wandering, cause more than likely you'll come back.
