Yeah I've noticed that too. I always keep the volume behind the speaker at 3/4. It's just a hassle when I go to turn them on or off and I accidentally hit the knob and I have to readjust them again. Other than that I love em.darigan wrote:
Yeah there BX8a's, what do you think of them? I've noticed the top end can be quiet sharp, slighty distorted even. I checked it up on sound on sound and it had a good way to help reduce this issue and thats to lower the volume at the back of the speakers as much as possible so your soundcard is powering the monitors more, I've done that and although its improved I still think its an issue. Having said that thou I've been using them for a good while and I'm used to it, plus I have some relatively cheap logitech speakers with a subwoofer that I can a/b test to get an idea of how things sound on an average home system.

Would recommend to anyone wanting a bit of hardware but not wanting to break the bank.
the reason why you are experiencing so much noise with this fx unit is because its meant to receive instrument level signals, you are giving it line level signals, you need to attenuate the signal before it goes in to the unit. Get/build yourself a re-amp box...think about a DI box but in reverse (you can do this, but its not recommended), http://www.recordingmag.com/resources/r ... l/314.html
Yes the re-amp box would solve the problems, the noise is happening when you put the lone level signal through a transistor expecting a much lower signal level. When you do use a re-amp box obviously analog distortion is going to add distortion but not noise.

@Ezzcal: yeah i love my lil vci. and why did you mess the mod up on yours or something? i was looking into modding mine but honestly i dont do enough beat juggling to justify the mod.
@ Collective: yeah my big boy dj kit does the trick for me...i just spin a bit here and there for fun while at home or maybe at a house party. i dont need or want a big setup so its perfect for me. id rather concentrate more on producing then djing anyway. imo if your a good producer you can easily be a good dj. but if your a good dj you cant easily be a good producer. so i tend to give producing more of my time at the moment.
Re: the classic "take a photo of your setup" thread

My modest setup, Just got back home after a long trip so not done setting up. Axiom-25, old 4-track mixer, and a condenser mic not setup yet. adding monitors soon and picking up a macbook pro once I head off to college. and yes, the xbox is crucial to the workflow
EDIT: forgot to mention, desk is home made.

fuck the mk2. i bought my mk1 after the mk2 was already released. thanks to the boys at techtools and all their support on the mk1 i decided to go with the mk1. plus its rock solid where the mk2 isnt as much.Ezzcal wrote:i just miss the iluminated LEDs now and aggain have to open and clean becuse one or two arcade buttons do loose there sensitivity after afew hard perfomances , i should just get a midi fighter .lyons238 wrote:thank you sir-[2]DAY_- wrote:looking good lyons, i'd like to try a day of sampling with decks like that, mainly cuz i aint got any vinyls. Re: the classic "take a photo of your setup" thread
Hi there, yes It is indeed a custom made parametric.
Stepped controls throughout, stereo ganged L/R with very close LR tolerances, based on circuits from a classic 1970's/early 80's USA built eq. Gains trims in and out, 6dB or 12dB cut/boost option per band, variable shelf filter slopes, fixed shelf at top end, switched shelf at bottom end, Full EQ bypass switch, per band bypss switch. Only the best components used inside.
More info about the original units, it uses a T-filter type circuit.

Re: the classic "take a photo of your setup" thread
@safeandsound when your mastering something and using your external gear, do you have to tweak the knobs to your liking, run the audio through and record it and thats the only copy of it you have? like i mean, say you were working on a song, and the knobs got moved somehow in the night without your knowledge, and you havent recorded the audio yet, would you be screwed? Cause i know faders can be motorized to match a DAWs faders, but ive always wondered how it works with external audio processing gear

Re: the classic "take a photo of your setup" thread
Just good old crib sheets really, you take note of how everything was exactly as it was. If anything gets changed to refer to that. Although if you know what you're doing I'm sure you could get it sounding good again and close to how it was without a crib sheet, with a bit of playing about. Some mixers etc (expensive ones mind, Neve, SSL etc) have 'total recall' which is where it remembers where the faders (motorised faders), eq and compression settings on the desk and calls back all the settings when you load that session on the desk. Though I'm pretty sure there's no outboard that has a total recall function soo...@safeandsound when your mastering something and using your external gear, do you have to tweak the knobs to your liking, run the audio through and record it and thats the only copy of it you have? like i mean, say you were working on a song, and the knobs got moved somehow in the night without your knowledge, and you havent recorded the audio yet, would you be screwed? Re: the classic "take a photo of your setup" thread
Hi Randorando, most mastering studios have a mix of switched and non switched equipment. Each track gets a note down of what happened in the DAW project notepad. 9/10 I can recall what I did very quick (even if I lost all notes) because once you have heard a track you know whats wrong or right. It would be rare not to an DA>analogue kit>AD pass in the same session. In fact I make sure I avoid that scenario. Remember there tends to be nothing too extreme on a decent mix anyway............ cheers, Barry
