Compression guide from DNB Scene
http://www.dnbscene.com/article/1474-co ... n-tutorial
The EQ tutorial came out years and years ago i think, but this seems to have been worth the wait. I'm sure most of the people on here have seen this, but it's incredibly useful for beginners or anyone who doesn't understand compression at all.
Should this possibly be added to the bible?... it gives a very simple explanation, and could answer a lot of questions about compression right off the bat.

and yes, this guide is short and sweet. they seem to phrase things in a very easy to understand way.

Great guide, and I like the look of that compressor. The graphical representation is really useful IMO. Will defo be giving the demo a go

Re: Compression guide from DNB Scene
i think this is important/useful enough for a bump, especially considering there's a popular thread about judging songs by their soundcloud waveform.
Re: Compression guide from DNB Scene
Yeah very useful guide. I also tried out the compressor they use in the article, its brilliant, I love it
Re: Compression guide from DNB Scene
defo gonna read, compression/limiting is the only effect that i've never really understood during the 3 years i've been producing
Re: Compression guide from DNB Scene
it's hard to find a good explanation of compression, and this is the easiest/clearest i've found!mistayif wrote:defo gonna read, compression/limiting is the only effect that i've never really understood during the 3 years i've been producing
Re: Compression guide from DNB Scene
dont want to pollute the thread, i didnt read this yet, wish i had found it earlier haha. seems interesting.
just here to say : the biggest leap forward in my understanding of compression, happened when i was able to theoretically differenciate the effect that threshold and ratio had on a sound... what it is that they do... and how is it different...
they are different and i think they are the two most misunderstood functions of the compressor.
i read it somewhere and it unraveled a lot of things i was stoked...
if anyone wants some insight on that i'm tuned in. ill read the text first bc maybe they talk about it..
can't wait to read

Re: Compression guide from DNB Scene
thank you dude...i was just actually researching compression today when i was having trouble
Re: Compression guide from DNB Scene
Nifty little guide this. Does a good job explaining the basics of the technical side of compression.
Re: Compression guide from DNB Scene
So I finally got a handle on ratio after this article.
Which is a big deal. ;D

post whatever other useful compression stuff you have! or put it in a new thread, whichever seems more appropriate.Ldizzy wrote:dont want to pollute the thread, i didnt read this yet, wish i had found it earlier haha. seems interesting.
