36 Chambers of Dubstep
36 Chambers of Dubstep
Hi, I've just started a new dubstep website called 36 chambers of website, I won't bore you with details but the basic idea is that people can go onto the website and listen to tracks from different artists. The address is http://www.36chambers.net/ (still haven't got round to buying the domain yet =D ) I started it a couple of weeks ago as a side project, and it's still largely under development; its missing a lot of artists and tracks. I'm looking for some honest feedback, and if anyone would like to suggest artists, or any other suggestions it would greatly appreciated. Cheers for taking the time to look.

Honest feedback... You are hosting content which you have no right to do so. Apart from that it's fine!

Re: 36 Chambers of Dubstep
It looks fine, and artist presentation is a good idea... You should add a "buy it" button !
As you said, it's missing lots of artists.
Think about Phaeleh, Distance, Subscape, Rusko, DJ Madd, Von D, Jack Sparrow, Icicle, D1, 6Blocc, Loefah, Silkie, Joker... etc. And maybe put them in an alphabetic order

Re: 36 Chambers of Dubstep
Isn't it all just straight copy pasted from wikipedia?
Re: 36 Chambers of Dubstep
Before i started the site I asked alot of producers/DJs that i know personally (admittedly not the people's whos content i'm hosting) what their opinion/reaction would be if they found someone hosting their content without permission. The general consensus was that they weren't fussed, with most saying that they are happy to have there content promoted and that it was mainly about live shows anyway. If there are any DJs/producers reading this, I would love to hear your opinion.Honest feedback... You are hosting content which you have no right to do so. Apart from that it's fine!
Cheers for this, since the site is still its early days, it's still missing a lot of content, and any suggestions are much appreciated.Think about Phaeleh, Distance, Subscape, Rusko, DJ Madd, Von D, Jack Sparrow, Icicle, D1, 6Blocc, Loefah, Silkie, Joker... etc. And maybe put them in an alphabetic order
Yes, it's mentioned in the about box in the bottom right corner. Wikipedia is very relaxed about content copying, as long as you credit them. I'm in the process of re-writing the content myself, but once again the site is only it's very early stages.Isn't it all just straight copy pasted from wikipedia?
Thanks for your responses =)
Re: 36 Chambers of Dubstep
Are you paying licensing royalties to the artists/labels whose tracks you have made available for download?

Re: 36 Chambers of Dubstep
err, i think the site is struggling with its own identity... it's called 36 chambers of dubstep, there's nothing about wu tang anywhere, it's black n red but has a hideous 4-bit rainbow background, nothing on the site is very educational or necessary given there's a plethora of excellent web coverage for all kinds of dubstep all over the place already....
people forget to ask themselves if there's any demand for whatever it is they decide to start pushing. all your play lists have been available somewhere else for awhile, besides the 36 chambers playlist, which is the same damn tunes AGAIN. with the exception of a weird non-dubstep Gyptian remix which imho has no place anywhere, especially in that mix..
and then all of a sudden i come across Dub Lemon's "Sierra Le-Owned" track in your "most played", and i can't seem to find where on the site it is hosted, but there it is in the most played.
All the information is snagged from wikipedia.... lame.
Also asking other, lesser known producers how THEY would feel seeing their work up, is not sufficient to cover how the actual artists up there might feel. that's a ridiculous thing to suggest.
And after all that, having nothing original whatsoever on the website, do you really think this is necessary: "© Copyright 2011 - 36 Chambers of Dubstep" ????
what exactly is copyrighted with you.... the lackluster html? the rainbows?
There's my honest feedback

Re: 36 Chambers of Dubstep
Once again, thanks for the feedback.
In conclusion I should have waited before posting this link until the site has more/better content, as it stands at the moment less than 5% of it is done. I should have been clearer when i first posted, although I was hoping that I would get some help from members of the community. The feedback is much appreciated.
It's a reference to old Shaolin film, called the 36 chambers of Shaolin http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_36th_C ... of_Shaolin. I'd highly recommend it if you're into that sort of thing.it's called 36 chambers of dubstep, there's nothing about wu tang anywhere
Laughed when i read this, you weren't the first person to comment on it, being slightly colorblind it's hard to judge properly how it might look to others. Either way, I've replaced it with a nice neutral bright neon pink =p (kidding, it's back to black) thanks for pointing this out. I'm going to get together with a designer friend of mine, and have a complete re-design. The main purpose of the current release was to get core functionality running, (i.e music player and layout)it's black n red but has a hideous 4-bit rainbow background

I agree with you completely, In retrospect I should have waited until the more of the core content was done before posting this link, wikipedia was only ever meant as a short term solution until I had written the content myself. At the moment, the site is lacking in terms of content, and functionality, and is still massively under development.all your play lists have been available somewhere else for awhile, besides the 36 chambers playlist, which is the same damn tunes AGAIN.
This is true for a lot of cases. Originally the site was hosted on one of my subdomains, and was created for the purpose that if i was away from my dubstep collection that I could play music round other people's houses. I showed it to a couple of friends, they seemed to like it and judging from my google analytics data, they've been sharing it other people that they know (2000 hits over the weekend for a new site is a good start in my books). Seemed like a good enough reason to me.people forget to ask themselves if there's any demand for whatever it is they decide to start pushing.

Re: 36 Chambers of Dubstep
Erm, youtube?
Re: 36 Chambers of Dubstep
Youtube would be great, apart from the poor sound quality, slow loading times and the fact that i have to manually type each song in, or make a playlist and for that i have to log into the site etc etc.

youtube's definitely no substitute.... all the other bass music blogs, websites, mixcloud, soundcloud, facebook and THIS place, are.
Sorry OP im not on some mission to hate on people and make them feel bad, but that's just the simple truth . it's clear you have put a decent effort forth to do something good, and there was a decently varied selection up there.... still, it's just not needed

Re: 36 Chambers of Dubstep
The UI is okay. Not entirely appealing on the eye, maybe add a new skin. Your 'Most Played' kind of tells a lot about the audience that view your website - so I'm figuring they won't care.

Well that's just like your opinion man.
The unlicensed streaming content is more of a concern tbh.
