Anyone use Pro Tools to make dub step?
Hey guys im new to dubstep and ive been playin around with the synths and stuff in pro tools tryin learn some techniques. I went on youtube for some tut's and didnt find much that wasnt reason based. I love reason but I don't own it so im going to be working with protools and was wondering if any of yall know of some good resources online that may help me learn some DS stuff in protools.

I wouldn't write stuff in ProTools unless it was the absolute last option, I only use it for editing/mixdown.
EDIT: ProTools MIDI capabilities have come a long way over the years and you can certainly get results out of it but to me such capability is still something that I feel was bolted onto what is primarily a program geared around handling audio. For the record I write my stuff in Ableton.

Re: Anyone use Pro Tools to make dub step?
I know people who write dubstep & other styles of dance music on protools and I've collabed with them using it and it works just fine, nothing wrong with using protools at all.

Had a listen to some of the beats on your site, very impressive stuff, particularly liking 'Thoughtomatic Weaponry'. I'm going to make the assumption that given your ProTools and existing production output, you've got access to a fairly decent studio setup already, in which case fair play.
Production of Dubstep is less about the tools that are available, and more about the creation of the tracks - some releases are done in programs like FL Studio or Reaper, some are purely sequenced audio, some trackers, and some using top end setups that may incorporate Nuendo or ProTools.
There is a good intro set of guidelines to Dubstep available on Music Radar here - http://www.musicradar.com/tuition/tech/ ... ips-178489. Should give you a good grounding in the basics of Dubstep beat construction.
Additionally, there is a comprehensive collection of threads at the top of the Production group here - http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=159713. Again, should give you a few tips.
Feel free to drop me a PM, or else add me on AIM if you've got any further questions - wub2028.

And mine?
it had nothing but facepalms.
I guess it`s not helping but damn, why ask such a rudimentary question?

I mean, just the fact that he states that he could only find Reason tutorials for Dubstep tells me he made no effort.
You can use any DAW to make Dubstep.
You can use a tapedeck and your knees if you wanted.

Re: Anyone use Pro Tools to make dub step?
if you can make music in pro tools and do not have a problem with it then continue, you shouldn't switch because someone tells you to of course unless you were having problems which you don't to begin with. idk if that sentence made any sense it is pretty late where I live and I am pretty tired right now.

If people ask rudimentary questions, give rudimentary answers. A barrage of sarcasm and facepalm pictures doesn't help anyone, and certainly won't encourage new members to stay around.
It's not rocket science - either don't respond to the 'n00b' questions, or else direct them to where the information can be found.

exactly what wub has said. if you can't say anything relative then do not say anything at all. i actually like helping people (or at least attempting to help people) because it kind of helps me remember the information I know. it's like reviewing for a test and you going through every quesiton every day to make sure you remember it the day you take it

Re: Anyone use Pro Tools to make dub step?
i was just having a laugh by posting the vid, its good to have a bit of fun every now and then. these threads need it!
clearly the op has done zero reading on this topic, you say to direct him to the information, yet its everywhere. can a daw make dubstep is like asking "hey i want to drive to london and back, will this car do it?" "is it a car designed to drive on roads?" "does this model have wheels?"
i don't agree with the deleting of posts unless they are offensive in nature, which mine wasn't. a warning to keep on topic would have sufficed surely?

And yet you still don't point him in the right direction, despite the fact you know where to look.VirtualMark wrote:clearly the op has done zero reading on this topic, you say to direct him to the information, yet its everywhere.
You need to re-read the OP - he's not asking "can this DAW make Dubstep", he's looking for resources associated with using ProTools to produce Dubstep. And he's got a point, not a lot of stuff on YouTube is ProTools orientated. But the fact that he has looked on YouTube enough to realise this should mean something.VirtualMark wrote: can a daw make dubstep is like asking "hey i want to drive to london and back, will this car do it?" Sarcasm begets sarcasm, I'm afraid - when there is already a half dozen posts in a thread giving sarcastic or unhelpful comments, a thread is highly unlikely to get back on track.VirtualMark wrote:a warning to keep on topic would have sufficed surely?

ok fair enough, my apologies!wub wrote: You need to re-read the OP - he's not asking "can this DAW make Dubstep", he's looking for resources associated with using ProTools to produce Dubstep. to the OP, basically if you learn the principles of music production on any daw, you can apply them to pro tools. i'd suggest just learning pro tools really well so you know your plugins, and learning about dubstep production from the videos on other daws. automation is automation, filters are filters etc. you'll just get a slightly different character of sound depending on what plugins you use. so just follow the tutorials and try to recreate it on pro tools!
