Re: ambience vs. filth
It's so nice to see the kids rewriting music history to fit their naive outlook.

and no, that strange fruit song blows more dick that literally 99% of music I've heard before dubstep or not.
Im a classically trained guitarist as well, so im not into just in your face music. I've been listening to rock, jam bands, country, jazz, classical and electronica for years studying them to see what makes good music before i even heard of dubstep.
Im not angry either I try and make the sound I want to hear and thats no problem to me. People wanna hear the nasty shit nowadays anyways. All my friends that listen to rap but are familiar with dubstep offered their opinion that those posted songs all pretty much suck, but love stuff like skrillex and doctor p. The people holding onto that kind of older dubstep are the ones who are probably angry.
I agree with the fact that there should be a better balance between the ends of the spectrum. A dj playing all nasty wobbles all the time would suck and make your ears sore. Appropriate breaks and buildups need to be used to create a tension/relief and give an overall feel to the set. You need contrast to make things heavier.
as a note to those who think im unfamilar with dubstep... ive been around the genre for about 3 years now and been to probably at least 30 dubstep sets in my day in addition to like a million other concerts for bands like STS9, umphreys, other festivals where there always additional electronic music. I been producing for about 3 years now too so don't you think i've done some homework?
Re: ambience vs. filth
If you've heard about a hundred or so more 'filthy' songs then you've heard just about them all;
Build up,
Sample; Tekken/MK/ Steet fighter, Duke Nukem or whatever,
Drop,
'YOY' sounds, 'YEAH' sounds ect
Bit of a break
Second drop
And a million and one people saying it's dirtier than something and it killed Bin Laden

ain't that the truth tho.Basic A wrote:OP, I read your post again and wanna cry a little... No. Its poor DJ's who only play filth. When i got into this shit, filth had a serious impact because when you play nice, heady tunes for 10 minutes and drop a banger it has sooo much more impact then it will after an hour of the same wobble noises. Poor DJ's only playing one side = the problem.

on the other hand i hear stuff like what the OP has in his sig and i think the same thing he does about the tunes i posted: boring drums, poor synth work, no vibe or energy; time to go to the bar.
you're definitely entitled to your opinion.dameonxz wrote:no seriously not trolling.
Carnival step is that zomby strange fruit song. Not trying to insult your tastes(I guess I am) but you couldn't pay me to listen to that, the sound is like a circus organ with a broke ass kick drum.
you talk like you are both really arrogant and really stupid tho. i mean "Carnival step" wtf?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VafKbNzZS3M
you mean this^^^^?
or dubstep carnival, the upfront/tearout/brostep night?

i probably would have felt the same as you and your friends when i was younger. i took some time to figure out what people found enjoyable about a music that seemed opaque and unintuitive to me at first. it paid off for me. its not your fault those tunes are over your head.dameonxz wrote: All my friends that listen to rap but are familiar with dubstep offered their opinion that those posted songs all pretty much suck, but love stuff like skrillex and doctor p. @kochari. nah you're a circuit bender in an indie prog rock band tho. #youllgrowupsoon

oh and if every drop sounds the same it really doesn't matter if you throw some cheesey breakdowns in. still gets boring fast. #adecadeofshitdnb

Yeah that Skrillex guy has a lot of talent, every song he makes sounds different.

Re: ambience vs. filth
im not for this rift but just to prove my point all the peoples tracks i have critiqued that are filthy have given me positive feedback on my own. The people defending "other" dubstep (since ambient seems to be offensive but to you sensitive hardcore oldtimers) seem to think the song in my sig is shallow(it is, the point was to just be as nasty as possible). Im not trying to be arrogant im actually trying to be polite but just pointing out the huge seperation. Not to mention there have been elitist fucks thinking they're cool in this thread cuz they were on the scene earlier... congrats.
dnb in the club gets boring way quicker imo: snare/white noise buildup, drop, boom boom ch tica tica boom ch x100. awesome for rolls tho... but really why go to a dubstep/dnb/whatever genre show if thats not what u wanna hear?
edit: ehh moreso boning to bassnectar but definitely put on some hour long dubstep mixes for the bedroom... gets the girlfriend goin wild i recommend it. Cant always bone to slow rap jams and booty mix '96
