Uploaded da mix now also to megaupload. Think this provider is better than the original one.

made it through the whole thing! it was a 'lil too long for my attention span, dunno if others feel differently.

here's a couple things i noticed:

eqing - i think you need be more extra aware of eqing tunes when the incoming or outgoing tune has vocals in it. i thought that the jah war blend as well as the check it/spongebob blend would have worked better had the vocal been more prominent in the mix.

levels - idk why, but 'system' didn't feel or sound as punchy as when i've heard it elsewhere. maybe it's a recording process thing? i know that my mixes always sound a little flat since i don't really do any post-recording treatment or anything (which i should).

timing - i think that some of the mixes and drops were awkwardly placed. for example, 'fear riddim' into 'geddeon' or 'rainy dayz' into 'goat stare'. that may just be remedied by knowing the tunes better, or syncing them at better crossroads.

Other than that, some real good ideas going on though:
geddeon into bombay squad
28g into floating hands
were some nice blends i can recall off the top of my head

Thank you for listening and the constructive criticism. I might have been a bit too conservative with the eqing of vocals at the mentioned points and thats because I always try to avoid too much highs. Better a bit too less than a bit too much.

Levels might be according to recording. However, I tested the mix through headphones and subwoofer and it sounded OK to me.

You are absolutely right with the 3-4 transitions which were a bit awkwardly placed in this mix. Some trax are a bit hard too mix, for example that Haunted tune by Mala changes speed within the track, also does Fear. Not each transition could be equally good, but I think in this mix transitions except one or two are all listenable.

Thank you.

hmm...if haunted or fear drift in pitch/speed, then you may want to check your sourcing. you´d have to be cautious as to whether it´s a vinyl rip or something that was actually released digitally. and then, keep it hush-hush or the Furies will begin to chime in...

I ripped Fear from CD, it might be something in a break which gave the rhythm a shift. Haunted is obviously a vinyl rip, but I think its impossible to mix this track from vinyl when the beats come in it suddently changes after around 4 tacts. Mala sometimes produces very hard to mix stuff. Also thought about putting Stuck into the mix, but for that tune I was not able to find a grid which worked in some way. Don't think it is a source problem, but would be nice if DMZ would sell their back catalogue digitally.

u may be on to something. i checked back on a bunch of archived rinse sets and it seems like everyone drops 'haunted' in a weird place. the only example i could find of a drop that sounded correct was in a kode9 b2b loefah set from 2005 (granted i only checked a couple of sets that i had). which is weird, cuz to me it just sounds like a regular 16-bar lead-in to the drop.

FYI, though, 'haunted' is a coki tune.

Mix needs a bump. Awesome collection of essential old school stuff. Was just telling a friend of mine this mix is a nice little crash course for anyone who isn't aware of this "foundation" dubstep...that is...everything before the robots.
