Deftones are highly respected in the metal scene? Have i missed something?
Yes haha. Ok so their newer output isn't as great as their earlier stuff but as they have incorparated some elements of electronic sounds and DJing I thought it would be far more interesting than the OP music. Plus Chino doesn't always need to shout all the time.
Machine Head then?
Lets hear some your ideal collaborations and why they might work
Ideal metal/dubstep collabs...hmmm.
Dark Funeral/Old Man's Child meets Distance/Kryptic Minds
Necrophagist meets Vex'd
Meshuggah meets Goth Trad
Dimmu meets Antisocial (obviously not thematicaly compatible but think of the sounds! Silkie on a darker more orchestral tip...)
Cool thanks for the ideas, interesting to see what other people think would work. I've heard of Necrophagist and Meshuggah, never listened to them until now. Death metal isn't my thing its too fast and it all lacks one massive thing for me......
GROOVE. Groove over technical wankery any day. Don't even get me started on guitar solos
death metal is totally groovy. thrash and speedcore and Yngwie Malmsteen fuckbaggery are too technical-wank.
Then again, i'm worse with the genre names in metal than I am in EDM, so wut the fuck do i kno.
i'm thinking more hardcore/death metal like Terror n Bury Your Dead and Bleeding Through and Unearth n shit
Nothing wrong w guitar solo either
there are a lot of us with the same opinion, and we voice it due the like mindedness of ourselves
i dont see what your problem is?
its a cruel here at dsf when things labeled as dubstep, aren't dubstep..
Seriously? That's how you want the forum 'to roll'? Then hopefully one day you'll mature a little and learn to see where the problem is.
Things labelled as dubstep that aren't dubstep? Dubstep known globally as a genre with potentially limitless influences. Hence PART of the reason I got into it to begin with. I remember when I was listening to dubstep and most of it didn't even have the half time beat that characterizes the genre today so nice for you to come along and tell everyone what dubstep is thanks.
However on the other hand nice to see some people in the thread talking constructivly finally.

Haha necrophagist are probably the deffinition of technical wankery, but check out meshuggah, groove city! Listen to bleed from the album obzen, so so sick. If you like machine head pretty sure you'll be into them. The other three are basically black metal, less techy more keyboards and strings, decement amount of groove there too!

well, first off all, i didn't say that 'I' want the forum to be the way it is, i just is.
and when i said about things not being dubstep, i was talking in a literal sense, hence the reference to Jack beats / minimal forum. i'm not telling anyone what is and isn't dubstep, i'm not gonna be the tnuc who proclaims skrillex (et al) isn't dubstep, just because of the amount of midrange bass. i like dubstep because of its depth and amount of variation, i'm just saying that this forum is like that. plus you'd think they would refine their sound a bit more, maybe learn production a bit better...
@wolf89: Be quiet and drive still my favorite Deftones tune!
I too think it sounds far from good but these guys started just 2/3 months ago. So let's give em some time to work on their tunes and I'm sure it'll all work out.
Yet still I think I won't be interested in the result because I think it'll still miss the dubstep elements I'm looking for..

Its ok, too similar to the original in my eyes. However I reckon that was done without any stems so it would be difficult to take the whole song and radically change it.
I'm guessing everyone's heard this:
Again nothing spectacular really.
Anyhow this thread seems to have turned into a deftones appreciation thread

If you want my honest opinion, I would suggest to just stop making dubstep metal because I think it sounds horrible...from the looks of it though, you just dismiss people as "haters" if they don't like your art, and apparently your "doing it right" when this happens, so by that logic, keep making dubstep metal...??
People can make whatever the fuck kind of music they want, i like making music and even if no one liked it i'd still do it cause its for me really. BUT, from a technical standpoint, yes, these mixdowns are just nightmareish. I dont care for the style of music, but the mixdowns just make it that much worse...really...
So work on the mixdowns, but dont let these overreactive people just stop you from makin music. Do what you want.
