Have you tried working from the Brutal Electro preset?

Rinsed!

Try the brutal electro preset (gasp), lower the filter cutoff slightly, some external distortion and a bit of compression.

I'm no expert but I reckon that would work.

As usual in my experience its just about layering the right samples. Add FX like small amounts of reverb and delay and you'll begin to get that metallic sound. Route your layered samples through a bus, EQ them together as a whole, giving a nice EQ boost at 200hz and add compression. Use your ears with the compression to find the sound that works for you. I find adding shitloads of compression gives the snare a "bulgy" sound, so its about finding the limit and peeling it back just a teeny bit.

I've also had fun whacking Camel Crusher on the snare bus and using the compression knob on that too, as well as playing with the distortion
Would u be using FX as inserts on those, routing their output to the snare bus as well, or routing FX sends out to the mains? thinking of trying out some drum hit resampling, n for the moment just wondering whether you'd be bussing those outputs as well as the hits

N yeh, jaydot Vulcan dubstep is badass
Both! Some effects are inserts on each, some apply only to the bus. I tend to layer up 3 snares, 2 actual snares and a clap. Verbs and delays go on the clap more than the other 2.

Other cool things to try is stuff like layering snares with toms, specifically the higher ones or any other percussion.

that track is really shit...
but i know exactly how to make that sort of bass sound - i used to use it alot in my tunes. altough ive done it logics es2 same thing applies on massive;

open up your favourite bog standard wobble bass (which has alot of mid range to it)
on the LFO change the LFO wave from a triangle/sawtooth to a like the opposite of a sawooth, so its starts off a peak and goes down
and huzzah you've got the sound

Maybe it's in the background recording, just use some white noise to recreate or go to freesound or whatever. Don't make things more complicated than they are.

ive gotten it a few ways

usually i'll layer a rimshot with a snare or just rimshot by itself
add tape distortion
compress it a little to make it pop

i can try and make an example of what i mean when ig et back from work and show u...
AND IM BASED WITH THE MARTIANS
MARTIANS. MARTIANS. MARTIANS. MARTIANS.

Hi, I'm quite interested in dissecting the sounds of this song, so was wondering if anyone knows how to make the panning background synth around 1:44 and the lead that comes 1:52 + the classic Joy O pads at 4:18.

You guys were right, that is pretty damn close. I'm super new at this, only been making dubstep for about a month. Thanks!

Hey, anybody know how to get the sort of metallic bass that comes in at 01:12? And the really long synth around 04:04?

Cheers :)

i dont know exactly but that background synth just sounds like random notes played on some lead synth sound to make it sound like random bleeping and then its mixed to be in the background, just try working with simple waveforms high up in the octave, play with the glide and the envelopes.

the lead sound just sounds like a square wave, with a short reverb on it to make it sound metallic

for the pads, just play around with square and saw waves, like mess around with the octaves that the waves are at, and also play around with the filters to filter out some of the higher harmonics.

I really want to create something similar to the "main theme" of that song, the synth line that becomes noticable at about 00:18. I'm pretty new to production but I'm willing to decrypt any pro advices so don't hold back. ;)

Thanks in advance!

Definitely mess around with a synth that has a noise generator. Low pass filter with a ton of resonance. You can get a lot of pretty crazy sounds.
