Re: Sub Bass in massive
have a play with this. nothing special. you might want to play with the filter, and the attack, decay and release of envelope 4. also most of the macros have been disabled the only one which does anything is 'sublevel'

Re: Sub Bass in massive
ok ok...please, everyone just let me handle this and don't bombard him with hate
Just load a simple basic sine wave in just one oscillator. Adjust the sustain on the amp envelope and away you go. Alternatively, check here for any and all bass related questions FFS!! : http://www.dubstepforum.com/the-bass-th ... 59658.html
Unintentional distortion in sub bass can come from not initializing the synth, having it's gain too high, etc...If you're using an 808 sample, I read somewhere that they are made with white noise, and therefore intentionally made with a slight bit of distortion for movement. Oh and too much vibrato can do it too...I dunno man, sounds to me like you need to spend some more time working with sub bass

Re: Sub Bass in massive
sine untouched, unfiltered, pitch and amplitude mod only. maybe you could even use the bypass fader to let it out pure

Re: Sub Bass in massive
I managed to get a good clean sound out of massive using the 3 oscs set to B-Pulse setting. Then add whatever flavor you want to the effects chain/processing blah blah. I tend to like a dirtier sub myself so I add a weeeeeeeee bit of white noise and bit crush, then a low pass filter. I liked how it sounded

Aww damn it.sorry if repost.

I prefer using Massive because you can apply a dimension expander and other flashy, but useless effects.

Re: Sub Bass in massive
i use massive for sub bass because i cant get sub bass to wobble in 3xosc like i can in sytrus, put the lfo on the wt position, thats an interesting wobble effect, or put a hi pass on it, usually keep it off but wobble that when you want wobble

Just use a sine wave. Adding effects ruins your sub bass.poundcake42 wrote:I managed to get a good clean sound out of massive using the 3 oscs set to B-Pulse setting. Re: Sub Bass in massive
actually not always. what I've been trying lately is forwarding the sub to a send where I distort it and then hi-pass and bring it back in with the clean sine. It gives the sub some flavor and power and the sub can then still be heard by people without subwoofers.Heartless wrote:Just use a sine wave. Re: Sub Bass in massive
EDIT: B-Pulse sounded smoothest and lovely to me. I add very lightly, just a lil bit to give it some edge that I tend to favor.Heartless wrote:Just use a sine wave. For a plain jane good ol' sub I use Sylenth. Super easy to set up a good clean sub in seconds. On that I like to have 2 sine osc with one detuned like a notch for a bit o' de tenshuun mon.

Change the wavetable settings.poundcake42 wrote:Massive doesn't have a plain sine. It has sin/square, sin/saw, and sin/triangle, neither of which I was liking for my sub sound. Re: Sub Bass in massive
Oooooh >_> I didn't know the tech behind what a wavetable does. I just knew it changed the sound. So I take it the wavetable gradually changes the waveshape from one to the other depending on where you set the parameter? I thought it output both of the labeled waves. /facepalm
I burn with the shame, dishonor!
Thanks for the tidbit o'info. Will definitely change how I look at my sound design in Massive.
