For me it's the interaction between the percussion and the low end .
Re: what defines dubstep??
Dubstep is combining sub bass, ambiance, and experimental drums to create an alternative form of electronic music that seperates itself from the metallic mainstream scene of EDM today.

If it's crazy noises and has that kick on the 1, Snare on the 3 drum pattern, it's dubstep. If it has that swingy drum beat with the very mellow lead and heavy sub bass, it's dubstep.
My dad asked me what Dubstep was when I told him I produced it, and I really didn't know what to tell him.

Re: what defines dubstep??
Subbass and drums at a slow/moderate tempo; around 130-150, 65-75. Speed the tempo up and you have drum & bass.

This. The subsonic frequencies should drive and take control of the song.skitz_0 wrote:subbass driven music that hovers around 140bpm.

i think they are a few topics like this
It's about dropping a track at the wrong speed, and it sounding better than the real thing.

Lol, really useful description that.dindin wrote:Bass orientated music with no boundaries
I never get the idea that dubstep is inherently experimental or diverse.
This sounds about right to me
