ordering off discogs...

Post by jayladders » Tue Jul 19, 2011 10:03 am

so i recently ordered a 12 of cluekid/cotti - legacy.

a seller, whose name i wont say out of pure disgrace, charges 38 pounds for this vinyl. i was willing to pay this much cos i really, really love cluekids tunes and id fit into my sets. he responds almost instantly telling me the exact amount of payment required which totals the cost to about 40 quid. so i send the payment via paypal straight away, this whole process taking about two hours from me ordering the item, him replying, and me paying.

a whole fucking week passes.

to me 40 quid isnt a small amount of money. the seller had what appears to be no previous sales so i was even more skeptical. id send three or four messages on discogs asking him what the fuck was going down. he'd not replied since i sent the money, seven days ago. so i open a dispute on paypal. almost instantly, he replies to me, saying "oh sorry i was emailing you instead of messaging you on discogs", turns out was utter bullshit and sent me 4 emails at once thinking that i wouldnt look at the date and time sent lol. he asks me to close the dispute and offers me a partial refund, i accept.

another five days pass.various angry emails are sent by me seeing as he's decided to not reply to me again.

i get the vinyl this morning, its absolutely fucked. bell warped, crackling louder than the fucking hi hats and scratched and dusted to fuck. im furious.

this was more of a rant than anything but if anyone has similar stories post them cos i need to know im not the only one thats been fucked over.

Re-open a dispute on paypal, saying that the item was not as advertised, attach screenshots of the order where it should state the condition of the item, and state how you previously opened a claim against him for poor communication.

If he's talked up the condition of the record and it's clearly shit, he's missold the item.

Do what Garethom said, though PayPal can ocasionally be quite an arse when it comes to refunding and filing claims...
I hope you get it sorted though mate, best of luck!

Don't let this hold you from ordering off discogs in the future though mate, next time just make sure the seller has got some positive feedbacks. I've ordered off of discogs quite a few times now and luckily never had any problems.
I think you just needs to find the right sellers.

This.

Don't let them get away with it or they will keep ripping people off.

I use discogs a lot and touch wood no real problems, you are taking a bit of a risk so I tend to only use power sellers etc, or someone with recent good feedback

No problem, I've claimed off paypal a couple of times (not from discogs, but still) and as long as you can give pretty good evidence, there's never been a problem before, so good luck.

This sort of thing pisses me off, Discogs is a sick place for ordering, have ordered a lot of stuff of there myself, and sold a few things too, so hate seeing stuff like this that might put people off.

yeah dont get me wrong, discogs is saweeeeeet! ive gotten a bunch of awesome stuff off the site, but im just saying, the same as ebay or any other similar service, theres always a risk of this happening. its partially my fault for being too eager with payment though.

Nah, wouldn't ever say it's the sellers fault, the guys advertising something as being for sale, common decency would tell you that if somebody's paying you dollar (especially £40!) that you would get your act together and get it shipped, let alone respond to emails.

I've sold records for 50p to guys in Japan, and that probably doesn't even cover the packaging costs lol, but I still make the effort when somebody's paying me to do it.

Forget that wasteman, just post his name up for the heads to avoid!

You might want to try GEMM next time. GEMM, amazingly, gives you a guarantee of your payment independent of the sellers. You actually absolutely can not be ripped off on GEMM. Personally, I don't shop for vinyl and CDs anywhere else anymore..
