Any Advice???
Any Advice???
Hi I'm new to this but I've been trying to make dubstep for a while well more like an electronica dubstep mix kinda like skrillex but I fail at being creative with the wobble bass
I use FL Studio mainly, I'm good at making hip hop beats and an electronica type music with it but is it really good for dubstep?
I'm using massive for the wobble bass and everything and I have the hang of it but idk if its my adhd or what I just cant be unique with the bass lines.
Honestly idk if im cut out for dubstep but im bound and determined to get good at it
here are some tracks ive made I really hope yall can give some advice
Soundcloud
Soundcloud
This one has wobble bass in most of it but i failed in mixing it and you can barely hear it

Re: Any Advice???
Skrillex fails at being creative as well
What a coinsidence.
Re: Any Advice???
Are people on this forum on fucking commission for mentioning skrillex or what?
Re: Any Advice???
go outside, take a walk and start to ask yourself, why you want to make music, what you want to reach and what story you want to tell. then get back in front of your screen and follow your thoughts without comparing your work to someone elses.
Re: Any Advice???
Or shave your head bald on one side, put on some severely oversized glasses and make your tunes sound like the worst utter noise possible to fully immitate Skrillex for maximum respect from the kids!
Re: Any Advice???
HAHAHA I'm not trying to imitate skrillex I said like not EXACTLY like him... anyway I'm looking for advice not criticism on a choice example I used to explain things.
Re: Any Advice???
Why on earth wouldnt it be good for 'dubstep' but be good for other things? That makes no damn sense. Its just how you arranged your hits and where you set the tempo.HaxxCross wrote: I use FL Studio mainly, I'm good at making hip hop beats and an electronica type music with it but is it really good for dubstep?
All DAWs do the same thing, there is nothing wrong iwth FL.

Idk I just hear alot about reason and logic and pro tools and how anyone thats big in the dubstep game i know of doesnt use fl so i just figured maybe it just isnt right for it
Re: Any Advice???
Skream made his best tunes in FL Studio. That proves that it matters fuck all what software you use, it's how you use it that matters.
Re: Any Advice???
Fl does everything those other daws do the same way they do it. Those other daws dont have a magic button that makes everything good. No matter what daw you use, the compressor ratios will mean the same thing.HaxxCross wrote:Teknicyde wrote:Why on earth wouldnt it be good for 'dubstep' but be good for other things? And just FYI, reason, doesnt support audio, only midi. SO by all technicalities, that makes it LESS capable then FL.
All DAWs do the same thing, just with different color schemes.

Re: Any Advice???
if you've got the kit and are good at making beats then why not just go ahead and make them the way you're doing it rather than trying to make it dubstep? if you wanna be a producer then just make your music and then when other people enjoy it let them pigeon-hole it and be arsey about what genre it is rather than trying to force something.
just my opinion btw i dont have a clue about production or anything lol

This exactly man. Dubstep conforms to the rigorous standards of production that the world had pushed on them post-dnb.HaxxCross wrote:thats good to know, I'm allways going to use fl studio... but maybe dubstep is something im going to have to put effort to for a while to get it right just going to have a bunch of fails before a win
It took me 2 years of shite tunes to make something I was happy enough to send to djs/labels... Then another year after that to get it released.
Like, going by you saying skrillex in your thread, you probably havent even listened to electronic dance music as long as some people have been hardcore dedicating themselves to making it. Dont get discouraged about it yet.
See dubstep as your learning genre. In a few months/years time, the next earth-shaking EDM genre will come along, and you can worry about shining then.
Consider how many big name dubstep producers actually started out trying to learn to write a different genre years before dubstep even materialized... Then, when it did, they were ready.
Youll get there man, dont expect it overnight though, this takes YEARS.
Imagine if before you could learn to play a guitar, you had to learn how to build one. Thats basically what EDM is like.
