Got a very specific request about this track: TC - Where's My Money? (Caspa Remix)

right at the drop, the first synth lead note sounds like 'it opens up' ... it's the only way I can describe it.
I already got a synth lead I like (totally different) but I want to apply that same effect so it 'opens up'...
It sounds like some kind of filter, right? If so, which one? and what to do to it? (change the cut off?)

I'm not at my computer at the moment, so I can't do any hardcore synthesis (to confirm my hypotheses), but... The gasp samples and short sweeps are just that -- gasping and mouth tricks. (The "haa--, hah--" sound, right?) Sample horror films, or better yet, yourself. That whooomp sound... I might be confusing Swine Flu and Panic, but have a low sine and a high sine, then automate a low pass opening and closing. Apply a short, metallic reverb. Then do it again, but with white noise. Blend the two results and band pass to cut just a hair of the hiss, then notch it for a follow feel. Instant whomp. If you meant the actual wobble when the track drops, nearly the same thing; just open the filter from, say, 500 Hz instead of 0 Hz.

Slow attack on the amplitude and the low-pass filter's cutoff envelope.

Just one square wave. Add a low-pass filter with an envelope on the cutoff with no attack and just a slight decay so the filter starts off opened only slightly then closes. Reverb, compression, delay.

Hi everibody, 1st post on this awesome (and really helpful) forum.

My "help me make that sound" is the kind of bass drops and "twists", beginning at 1.39.
I tried several mixes of filter cuts and automations, distortions or bitcrushers, in vain...

For Heartless, the sound you need is the same as the 1st one of the track, try to detune a bell sound, or a woodblock, with a fair reverb and some delay.

How does one recreate the high pitched synth at 01:01 in Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip - Sick Tonight (Doctor P Remix) ?

Thanks in advance

I used 2 saws with one of them being an octave higher, whacked the unisono up then the unisono pitch just abit. I then ran it through a scream filter with a high resonance and put the scream to about 2 oclock.

Can anyone help me out, i was just wondered how it sounds so "screamy"
i know for a fact that that sound is a preset but slightly modified (sylenth btw). can't tell you which one since I am not to sure i would have to check.
Don't spread the pitches out too much as this will eventually make the sound weaker, not stronger. Also It may be missing something else as well but there's defenitly some vibrato, which a lot of the time completely changes the sound. If you're using thor slap an fast lfo on the pitches and this might help.

Re: How to get Glitchy vibe.

Please help, Ive been experimenting with Gate becasue i think thats how its done, but i feel like im missing something because my notes just hit at once pretty much instead of having a clean pause in between the different synths and stuff. Thanks !
Gating isn't necessarily used here. He uses a bunch of different synths. Also, keep in mind that wolfgang in particular says in interviews that he uses mostly hardware synths, and spends a rediculous amount of time creating unique sounds. He also recommends the D-cam synth squad which is software based. Just spend some time creating a melody with one synth, and then spend some time making some decent patches, and experiment with using the sounds you've made alternating at different parts of the melody. It's simple, but it sure as hell aint easy. But yeah I'd focus less on gating and more on switching between different sounds that compliment each other.

@monkfish: Which part of it? For the drop, low-pass/low-shelf envelope closing. For the main synth beginning on the first snare crack, hi-pass LFO work instead of low-pass. The other bits, resample + envelope with mild pitch shifting or phaser/flanger; it differs depending on the bit. Knowing Reso, though, it's probably a tonne more work. That should cover the basics, though.

@AnomiK: The bass? I'll try that on for size when I finish washing dishes, but I'm going to make a ridiculously overcomplicated guess; square waves + distortion + gating + sidechain + sine + distortion + distortion. So play uber low notes with a square oscillator, then distort and gate the output so all you're left with is the peaks of the wave from volume spikes. Sidechain those volume changes to a sine, so that the grit acts as a modulator, and the sine pulses in time to the frequency of the note. First, though, that sine gets distorted so that the volume changes are last, so it's like a stupid buzzy hi-speed tremolo on bass notes = INSTANT GRIT JA JA. Stupid, but I want to give that a shot really, really badly.

Really, though, heavy clipping on low notes/square waves + distortion. Doesn't help that I'm on a laptop in the kitchen with no bass. Gonna kick myself if you were talking about some other sound, lol.

Long story short, it worked; I had to add a high pass and some other stuff, but it turned out close.

Grr soundcloud account limits:
Image

It's way easier to just ubermegadistort a saw wave, play it slow and hi-pass for the grumbling grit, then add a reese in for the actual midrange. Then distort some more, or apply effects how you like. It really wouldn't be worth it to resample, imho, but that could help, too; that song switched between somewhat clear grit and dirty grit at whim and will.

If you have (the latest demo of) Renoise, here's the xrns file. Load and have fun. :)

Search for threads about making a Reese bass. I can't listen to the song right now, but it's Spor so I'm assuming that's what it is.
