Regarding the Amen break, I would like to know how the ride cymbals are extracted so well by some producers. You know in some of those jungle tracks where the rides are just like liquid and they make the drums push and pull so nicely. How do you get them from the break, which has a lot going on? I was thinking they might just use some other cymbals, but I can't get any other cymbals working that well. Example:

p.s. Goddamn I love that track :U: Beautifully realised.
EQing mostly. That song has the full amen break though, nothings really eqed out too hard except the very low end to make room for the 808 kicks. You can layer a snare and stuff on top of the amen and then eq out the lower frequencies that the kick and snare are mostly sitting at to extract it. You could also use sidechain compression to duck out snares and stuff though I've never done it that way for amen.

What does 'massline' mean?

As in: 'some people massline, some people like to trigger their bass sounds on a pad or keyboard '

As far as I understand Massline, it's just making one cohesive bassline out a bunch of different sounds.

Here are a couple of examples:

Anyways, how do I use any audio effects in Ableton? For example, the mixer in FL Studio.
Also, how to link these effects to plugins to a certain plugin

comeon now thats exactly why this thread was made! to eliminate this nonsense..
No, this thread is more to clarify issues people might have in their understanding of something fundamental. Asking how to do something in a DAW which is clearly explained in manuals is not a good way to support this thread and just keeps the newbs coming back asking stupid questions.

I'm with Amphibian on this. Giving basic advice is one thing, but explaining things already covered in far more clear and concise terms in the user manual is another.

Thanks for the info.

I only knew Dubstep existed 1 week ago when I heard 'Sexy Party by j rabbit'. What an excellent genre. I've been doing Trance for years but this stuff is awesome! Kinda' like 'Synth Bling!'

It's going to be quite a learning curve but an enjoyable one.

I've got Massive, but after seeing 1 of those videos, I'm thinking it would be a good idea to use kontakt alongside Massive, because I'm sure granular automation can be a big part of it. And I still would'nt have to print anything. I'm used to having everything live in midi.

There's just so much freedom in Dubstep, I love it!

Cheers.

You know what I hate? People who dont use keyboard shortcuts. One of my collab partners has been using cubase since 2005 and doesnt know any of the shortcuts. Not a single one. He does everything with the mouse and the fucking drop down menus. It takes bloody ages to do anything and he called me a "fanny" for suggesting he might want to learn a few of them.

Yep, I hear that.
I just recently mapped a shortcut for export/render.
I kept meaning to do it when I installed Reaper 4 but just never got round to it.
4000 mouse clicks later and I`m finally ready.

Some folks open 10 windows and then minimize them all individually to see the desktop.
Tell them to push Windows+D and they act like you're speaking greek.

Load up one of the formant-ish wavetables in Massive like "modern talking" and modulate the wavetable position. Apply a bitcrusher with downsampling around 12x.

Don't like, or have, massive, modern talking is the devil. I much prefer antiquated talking.

2 x Modern Talking, triangle waveform set to 1/4 or 1/12 modulating the first OSC, or Filter Cut off.

I had a query, you see when you boot up Ableton its standard tempo is 120, if I made a bassline, then changed the tempo to 140, the MIDI would still say it's on 120 while the official tempo is 140; what does that actually mean? Is it a 120 BPM spaced bassline playing at a 140 BPM speed? This always happens when I try to change the tempo, I end up forgetting to adjust all the MIDI's tempos. Not sure how that effects it.

load up a saw wave and a band pass filter, resonance all the way up and add a bitcrusher right after. downsampling to 20% and play with the other settings, move the cutoff around on the band pass filter and see if you can get a yoi.
...in my opinion
