Clipping VST

Post by jrisreal » Thu Aug 04, 2011 8:52 pm

I did a google search for such a VST and couldn't find it. Hoping for a vst that would clip my audio. Why? I have no idea, just would be good to know I can without bouncing audio. Know of anything?

idk if theres something like this in fl but in ableton theres something called over drive. you could recreate it by having a gain that makes your audio clip and then a limiter after it

Just turn it up shitloads. Bounce it and repeat if needed. Stick a compressor on it and turn the gain up to +30dB, though keep the ratio at 1:1 or else it will compress it and not clip.

Just be careful not to blow your monitors.

thanks, but dubsteppe's advice worked just fine. The point of my question was intentional clipping without bouncing audio, but thanks anyway

Any waveshaper would do it - use a curve that's normal / diagonal for the middle bit and horizontal for the outer bits - kind of elongated S shaped if that makes sense.

GVST GClip
Also has handy visual representation of the waves. I use it to clip the transients in drums sometimes, not noticable sonically but gives you some headroom back.

I don't know about fl but in logic we do have clip distortion that emulates clipping your signal
