Reckon Ken will get in next time because of this, Boris not doing well with it at all.

Also, doubt Theresa May will be staying around for too long, even Cameron taking a knocking.

Couldnt happen to a nicer person! She is literally so in touch with the streets, they call her T-Dogg down in Brixton. I felt so much better when I saw an interview with her this morning!

I'm all for addressing the source cause of the initial uproar....

but people on bbc keep saying disadvantaged youths and in the same breath mentioning BBM, Twitter, and text messages. If you have a blackberry you aren't too disadvantaged yeah?

From an outsiders point of view there seems to be a pretty clear line between the initial riot and the following riots. Initial riots seem to fit public outcry, secondary riots (last night) seem to be addressing an episode of supermarket sweep.

Also heard someone on Al Jazeera someone comparing this to the LA riots. The LA riots were race riots. 50 dead thousands injured billion+ in damage. The LA Riots were more about racism than anything and weren't done by kid. Adults were the biggest catalyst. I'd want to distance myself as far from that terrible incident as possible.

 she is a knob, should either be liberal and say she'll address policing and community problems and try to talk people down, or be tough and let the police use force with tear gas/water cannons. Just saying 'this is unacceptable' but doing nothing new doesn't achieve much, seems their political stance so far has been 'this is terrible, people shouldn't do it' then go around areas the next day shaking hands.
She's a total gobshite, just a useless fucking mouthpiece for a clueless government. On Radio 4 this morning she gave the same answer to every question put to her for 15 minutes!

There should be calls for his resignation once this has calmed down. The Met are fucked. Social order is fucked. The poor are fucked. The City is fucked.

The only thing he's managed to do in the last few years is let us walk diagonally across Oxford Circus.

If someone is motivated, they will do what it takes to capitalise on the opportunities that they create for themselves. :4:

To my mind, that generally doesn't mean waiting for employment 'opportunities' from others!

All I'm saying is that everyone is capable of finding ways and means to improve their lives without wanton destruction or resorting to crime and violence to advance. :Q:
you are gonna either be poor or living off an inheritance. stfu.
People either accept their station in life or have aspirations. People either allow themselves to be shafted endlessly or make something for themselves off their own back.

If we look at the source of 'inheritance' money, we'll find that it wasn't won on the lottery or made stealing TV's and shoes lol. Someone worked out a plan of action which enabled them to rise beyond their beginnings using what they had available to them and graft.

Of course, if we're talking money made pre WW2, much of it may have been made off the back of slavery and the exploitation of the colonies which is a different story. Yet other families like the Rowantree and Cadbury families became wealthy while also being good to the people they employed.

Perhaps you personally don't feel the world is a place where positive things can happen through hard work and creating opportunities for yourself? But for me the world is a place where positive things can come about if we prepare ourselves to pounce on the right moment which enables us to fulfil the plans we make.

Btw, seeing as I didn't call you out on anything personally, I'm unsure why you've told me to stfu? :|

Hmmm, yeah get the feeling he'll go down the route of more government control/less civil liberties rather than addressing social problems/inequalities.

They reckon Notting Hill Carnival won't happen this year now for starters.

You make the mistake of assuming that the people who are burning and looting shops paid for their Blackberrys.

I think that they initially did intend to help. Notice that the guy who opened the bag came out of nowhere...

yeah over-reaction... and using this as a jumping off point for unrelated changes, or at the very least vaguely related changes.

Couple of questions.... does london have a 17 and under curfew? What age are you charged as an adult in the UK?

coz you're fucking clueless.

you don't end up with all the money you want just from working hard. People with the kind of money you're talking about are fucking crooks.

I'm pursuing a doctorate right now in a field i enjoy. I can work as hard as i want; if i don't con people, if i don't engage in unethical business practices, i'm never going to make more than $100,000 in a year. i honestly doubt if i'll ever make it past 75k.

Cadburry & Rowantree ?????? you're trying to promote a really ignorant and dangerous worldview, son. so shut the FUCK up.

It all depends where you come from. It's pretty much seen as a necessity for teenagers to have mobile phones these days. "I'll get bullied if I have a shit phone" "There might be paedophiles around" "You need to be able to call me"... a lot of parents treat giving their kids a Blackberry the same as they would stocking the freezer... in fact, a lot would pay the BB bill before sorting out dinner... the kids will eat on the street anyway.

Yeah, they're not deprived on the scale of Somalia or something, but they are forced to mingle every single day with the rich and comfortable. They see billboards for "happiness" that they can't afford every time they leave their house. People wandering around with good jobs, nice clothes, fast cars... all the things that society says you need in order to be worthwhile as a human being... all things that they have absolutely no route to without committing crime... or debasing themselves.

It's not about famine, it's about disenfranchisement. The rioters in LA in 1992 weren't starving either... they were violently angry with a system that systematically kicked them down... kept them alive but unhappy and spat upon by the "good people".

I notice that everyone's being very careful about using the word Chav... this is a very sensible thing.

arrived at work to find a burnt out car just sitting outside and the front door of the building our offices are in was smashed, our office itself was intact though. at about 2pm we were told by the police to leave the building and get out of the area, the traffic getting back has been mayhem and i've only just got home

this is getting madder by the minute

Quite liked Boris' speech there, given he got destroyed earlier.
