so sick of hearing this. how that album got 5 mics in the source is beyond me..
Listen to the second verse of D'Evils and tell me that isn't 5 mics material. And this is mid-90s 5 mics, back before they had hidden motives behind their ratings. The Source is a joke these days

Although I'm not a big Jay Z fan, Reasonable Doubt is a quality album. He was doing his own thing and had a crazy flow with his unique style.

I would agree that a lot of artists should have blown up with him though. I can't believe that Elzhi dropped this in 1998, which I believe is one of the greatest Hip Hop songs of all time yet hardly anyone has ever heard it. It's only got 25k views on YouTube FFS. There are so many things wrong with Hip Hop I don't know where to start.

i reckon everyone came out of this deal ahead.

if it weren't for the 2nd half of the beat i would say Kanye, Jay, and Universal got jacked for cash when they paid for, essentially, a imitation / replica / knock-off of an already reasonably popular beat.... on a semi-related note, am i to understand that all of the lyrics were penned by one of the producers? or just the jay-z chorus?

grillwrecka wrote:They mention the beat was written by Sham Joseph. Do you get writing credit if you "buy" someone else's song?
tbf they seem to have used their own drum loops and synth patches (or at least not flux's). still not sure where the vocal sample comes from but if its widely available then i wonder if it would take a law suit for flux to get any money out of them. Dunno exactly how copyright applies to melody and general song structure.

One verse doesn't make an album. I do like that track though.

Can you honestly tell me it's in the same league as Illmatic, ATLiens, Cuban Linx, Enta Da Stage and Low End Theory? I dunno. Jay-Z has always seemed to be more hype than substance personally. As has Kanye. It's a good album but not one of the best of all time..

Keen to hear this tune though, sounds good for a laugh. It got taken off youtube?

PS Liquid Swords. Now there is a best of all time album.

I've never held Enta Da Stage up to that standard, but yes, I can honestly say I put Reasonable Doubt in the same league as Illmatic, Liquid Swords, Cuban Linx, ATLiens and Low End Theory. In fact, add Midnight Marauders, The Infamous, 36 Chambers, Internal Affairs, Illadelph Halflife, How I Got Over and a bunch of others and you've got my list of favourite hip hop albums

The Infamous. Was and always will be one of the best hip hop albums of all time. The gritty production and flow on this album is second to none. Can't wait to see them together again at rock the bells in NY. As far as that song goes, I have mad respect for jay z for what he's done, but he's a shell of what he once was. The song is straight hornshwog. I don't know why I was half expecting to hear something good...

Its all over torrent sites if you're into that, I personally find it hard to justify shelling out $20 on an album in which the artists spend 75% of their mic time bragging about how much money they have

No probs geez. Make sure you check out all of his albums and mixtapes. Elzhi is one of the most underrated MCs of all time. I personally would put him in the top 15 of all time.

8. Welcome To The Jungle - If Jay gon insist on usin this ****** bullshit ass beats still...the least he can do is make sure that Swizzy dont go near the booth yo. Ayo Snoop Budden...nobody gon need to hear you gettin ya "One hand in the air if you dont really care" on durin the hooks to no joints ever ever ever again son. Jus go back to contaminatin whats left of Alicia Keys n stop cashin in those favors ****** owe you to get on these high profile joints you malnourished ass lookin muthafucka. Son been urinatin wackness on these songs for years now b.... so can we jus acknowledge that the ****** got no business actin like he kno how to put together a hook now n stop lettin this whippet lookin muthafucka get near a mic?
11. Made In America (ft. Frank Ocean) - First of all son....Lionel Richie called from 1986 n said he wants his song back yo. Word. Sade jus holla'd on twitter to say this shit is soft as fuck namsayin. I think Elton John wants to conceive babies to this joint b. Drake said he gon soak in his lotion pool to this shit rite here for like a week son. I think Wiz Khagina is scissorin wit Amber Rose to this shit rite now as we speak yo. I heard this shit gon be used for the next Gwyneth Paltrow movie too. I dont kno how the same ****** that did Who Gon Stop Me had anything to do wit this shit but apparently he did nahmean. This shit sounds like two ****** hang glidin over the ocean together at sunset holdin hands son. I think this is bout to be on Yung Berg's yoga playlist. I cant fuck wit this shit at all b. This shit is like audio lesbian comin out my speakers son.

2. Lift Off (ft. Beyonce) - I almost aint wanna even comment on this shit son.... I dont even kno what to say bout it yo. This shit sounds like the anthem the fairies in Ferngully would use to go to war against evil humans to or some shit b. This shit is like Shia LeBeouf in song form yo. Lissenin to this shit is like havin ya ears penetrated by a million microscopic dicks namsayin. Shit sounds like n****s doin aerobics on a magical cloud of daisies. How many meadows did Kanye cartwheel across before he decided to make this beat? Seriously yo.... Jus how many lily pads did the n**** skip across the pond on before he got inspired to make some shit like this? Definitely one a the worst songs Jay ever been involved in...thats includin those lame joints off Vol 3 wit Amil n Mariah or the worst songs off Kingdom Come....EVEN the Timbo joints off Blueprint 3. Like this joint is SOFT son. Guess thats why Jay only spit like 5 n a half bars on it. Its like the song Yung Berg would play before he goes n commits his latest string of L's. Shit is jus terrible son...especially since it took like 6 ni****s to produce this muthafucka.

If only it was really Ghostface writing this shit...

On Swizz Beatz:
The n****s favorite color is rainbow. The n**** only has two facial expressions: Jus been raped or bout to rape somebody. The n**** always either looks like he bout to violate a broad/n**** or he looks like the picture on a missing dog poster.
On Drake:
This n**** wasnt born yo....he was blossomed. When he aint startin pillow fights on tour n pollinatin flowers n shit son stays spittin wit that tenderized Stephen Hawking voice. The n****s heart got a ponytail. Son could probably make you any origami animal you ask him to namsayin. He the type a n**** to sprinkle rose pedals on his bed before he go to sleep n shit. Son could probably frost a cake usin his eyes nahmean.
EDIT: Had to go through this shit and replace all the n-words with n**** cos of the fuckin forum censor

The homie Mero writes a pretty hilarious track-by-track review on the album.
WHO GON STOP ME - THIS SHIT STARTED OFF SOUNDING LIKE WHEN ****** DO A TECHNO REMIX OF A SONG FOR THE WHITE PEOPLE DANCE MUSIC STATION. I WAS WAITING FOR A "OHHH!!" LINE, THEN YE DELIVERED WITH "THEY SAY YEEZY WAS RACIST...I ONLY LIKE GREEN FACES" IM JAMMIN NOW...WAIT...WHAT THE FUCK HAPPENED TO THE BEAT? DID SOMEONE DROP THE MACBOOK ON THE KEYBOARD? TURN IT DOWN!! TURN IT OFF!!...CAN WE MAKE "NO COCAINE IN THE STUDIO" A RULE FOR THE NEXT ALBUM? KID CUDI MUSTA WALKED IN WHILE THEY WERE RECORDING LIKE "I AM THE BEST ARTIST OF THIS CENTURY!!" AND STARTED POUNDING ON EVERYTHING WITH KEYS ATTACHED TO IT.
"NO COCAINE IN THE STUDIO" -- That advisement really sums up a lot of this album.
