we had TUNNIDGE, DJ MADD, DARKSIDE, ORSON and CASKI at our strictly vinyl night in düsseldorf. at a new party in cologne we had DISTANCE & TUNNIDGE (next month we have DJ MADD & TMSV
). really great djs and very nice guys. I can def recommend booking all of them.
there are still some high class djs who manage their own bookings. it´s much easier to book a dj if he´s not exclusive at an agency.
shoot a pm if you have any questions.

I've only just started really, had T_! and Caski at my first night but the turnout was pretty small. Also there is a lack of large venues around here so if i book some bigger names it's hard to cover my costs without charging stupid amounts on the door which will just scare people off! Can definitely recommend T_! or Caski though both smashed it!

I help out with the brighton's dubpressure when they do things in Aberdeen. So far had... Gravious, Coki, Itchy Robot and Mungo's hifi along with Kion, Dom and Unlikely of dubpressure. Got youngsta up soon too
The only bookings i have done independently have been... The Locked Soundsystem and Dj Kokoro.
what have i learned? hmmm, plan for the worst and hope for the best. sometimes decks mess up, serato/traktor changeovers leave things quiete for a minute, and things out of your control like bad weather, other big nights etc can eat in to your takings. Get good PR staff who are passionate about the music as they will give off a sense of excitement and target the right people and places with posters and flyers.

Lemme see... Atari Teenage Riot, Limewax, Bryan Fury, I:gor, The Teknoist, Rotator, etc etc. And in collaboration with another party we also had Hellfish, Loops Haunt, Broken Note, Dorian Concept, Laderscraper, Sickboy and so on.
I volunteer at a venue and setup the night/promote and they pay and get the profits.
I've learned that it's not the line-ups that matter, or the music at your parties, but if the name of your party is a household name. People don't give a shit most of the time unless you're in a large city where people in general aren't a bunch of hicks who are still stuck in 2001.
What I already knew but just got confirmed is; DIY. Don't rely on other people, because they will let you down and it will end up costing you more work in the end.

I have been throwing shows since the late 90's
I have done hiphop, dnb and dubstep events
when I moved to Kansas City there was a nice void and I kinda slid into it
one thing that I have learned is that some booking agents are cool but when possible, work directly with the artist
some of the acts I have booked are Hatcha, Joe Nice, 12th Planet, DLX, Hulk, MC Zulu, Superisk, Dieselboy, Reed Speed etc..
this is my next show http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=210728

Re: booker-thread
Put on a night last year in Nottingham with a few friends which was fun.
Flew Von D in from Berlin and got Phephe up as well for a live P.A.
Also got one of the first outings from Sleeper and District.
Lost some money on the night, and the venue that we had was too large for a Wednesday, but it was just such a good feeling watching from behind the decks whilst Von D dropped show me v.i.p with Phephe singing!
Hopefully starting something again up in notts this October, gonna start small though, no more flying djs in, my wallet can't afford it!
Only advice that i can give is that you get out what you put in promotion wise

joe nice is on europe tour in october !!! i´m on it, can hook you up with promoter, if you like.
Re: booker-thread
I've booked Joe twice and both times his sets were awesome, he is very easy going, and like the name says.. he's a proper nice gentleman.vulvavibration wrote:ez fstz - tell me about joe nice - how was his set - did you fly him in from the us or was he on tour..?
it's hard to pick favorites, but if I had to I'd say he's my favorite US DJ to book.
There is no one around here with the kind of dubplate pressure he brings to the event
I'm stateside so we didn't have to fly him across the pond. if he's coming your way, I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to book him.
Re: booker-thread
I might MIGHT be involved in putting a weekly club night at Uni - which I haven't even started at yet - and I was wondering just how hard is it to promote it and what is involved?
It probably won't be on the same scale as you guys booking Tunnidge and whoever else, but the club has a 500 capacity so I reckon it could become popular if we do it right.
Any advice ninjas?

when you get to uni, find out who the promoters are and make nice with them. sort out the in's and outs of the scene. offer your help and maybe collab on a few shows with them.
you can catch a lot more flies with honey than you can salt and in a town that you just move to, you'll probably need a little help yourself.

The Uni posted on facebook to see who would be interested in being a club night promoter and assist running it. It just so happens I've been looking into doing a club night for a while and now I'm at uni and the uni's own club is offering students the chance to step up I thought I'd get in contact.
I've emailed the relevant person, and told them I am very much interested on putting on a dark dubstep night once a week. I've recieved prompt replies and have already being asked to head through to discuss it
I reckon it could diversify into more sounds of dubstep, and I definitely will get fully involved in any scene the uni has for dubstep so that should spread the word I reckon.
