Moral is probably at a low because the police work hard to catch criminals only from an over paid tnuc of a judge to appeal to the criminals human rights and give them a reduced sentence.

Stupid comment.

If people know what theyre getting themselves into then the same can be said for the people looting and rioting. They deserve to be sent to prison and pay for their crimes and not use excuses as a rationale for it.

You're constantly happy in your job are you? You're moral is 100% the whole time? You're called back from any leave that you may have? You're abused verbally and physically? You're told to work 16 hour shifts with only 8 hours till you're next shift. Sure you'd be fucking beeming at all that yeah?

I've got mates in the police. Its their job, they dont go round beating up random people for no reason. Yeah fair enough they kinda know what its going to involve, but saying morale cant be low because they should expect all that doesnt sit right with me. Its like saying a person who signs up to work in McDonalds isnt going to have low moral because they know what theyre signing up for.

What police get paid has absolutely nothing to do with the ramifications to rioters who have been charged with offences. Your habit of linking things together that have absolutely no ties is also quite annoying.
Actually I can't even be arsed to respond to you because you are so reactionary and quick to jump the gun without thinking whatsoever. They ARE getting paid overtime for this stuff you know? Give me a break buddy. I find the police almost as abhorrent as the rioters.
Are you a cop or something?

Look at how much they get paid straight after training. This is ANYWHERE

http://www.prospects.ac.uk/police_officer_salary.htm

A london officer gets around 6K extra on top of the starting salary, jus cos it's london and fuck you that's why.
People up here in the north east usually earn fuck all at full time employment (20k is actually considered a very good liveable wage, most are on 14K-17K who work full time) so it really annoys me to hear all this about how police don't get paid enough and blahblah. A police officer with zero training, zero experience who walks an incredibly dull and non eventful beat earns more money than someone who has to work in construction or heavy lifting all day, who has been doing it for years. It's common place now to see overqualified, older people having to take on shitty starter package jobs in the fields they have been working their whole lives earning under or at best around 20k, whereas any old pleb (literally, half of them are as thick as pigshit) can pretty much walk into a police job and be earning 22K straight off the bat.
Let's not get started on their insane pensions. Really, I think they are taking the government for a ride.

EDIT
And please don't go around comparing McDonalds workers to police. That's just insulting to people who genuinely struggle to get by on a day to day basis.

Wasn't really supporting the police to say there was 'low morale', was getting my conspiracy on and saying some reasons why they might sit back and let riots happen...hardly supporting them!

There is low morale in the met- senior officers have even said as much on the news, they are facing quite big cuts backs, I know a guy that just got promoted to sergeant then a few months later told he'd have to re-apply for the job because the area has 15 but now only needs 5. Doesn't really need to be compared to any other sector or McDonalds workers, fact is there is low morale in the met police.

Seems to make sense that if they are having jobs cut, and having people hate them for being heavy handed then can see why they would not give it their all in stopping riots- let it flare up (but keep enough control so the army don't come in) and people quickly start saying to give them a break and to not cut funding.

There's nothing wrong with people who become policemen and women, the problem is how the country uses them and how it encourages them to act whilst on the job. Too much of their job "on the beat" is specifically targetted at easy wins that don't really make our streets safer but do ruin their relationship with the public... stop and search to get kids with drugs on them masquerading under Anti-Terrorism, speed traps and on-the-spot fines for throwing cigarette butts for example... tiny things that we spend HUGE and disproportional amounts of money and resource on.

We need to overhaul what we actually use the police for in this country... starting that conversation with "Fuck the police" doesn't really help matters... it's not like they're going to go away any time soon, we should be pushing to make them OUR police again.

Now is the time for a lot of very important conversations to happen in our society. We need to stop shouting "Oh, you're just being a right wing bellend" and "Yeah, but you're a fucking hippy" before disagreeing with each other.

Having said that, people calling for evictions and benefit exclusions need to have a long, hard think about why we have council housing and the welfare state in the first place. Making people poorer and homeless is not going to make them magically fall in line.

Unless I'm much, much mistaken (I might look it up tonight to make sure), I think this is the first time non-political riots have erupted in England since the 1700s... this is not a trivial matter of people misbehaving because they can.

I wouldn't donate since A) it might be a scam and B) the guy can get compensation from the police due to the Riot (Damages) Act 1886 (http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/Vic ... 8/contents)

As I stated, I have friends who are Police officers. They are normal people who's job just happens to be a police officer. Yes they signed up for it I'm just going by the people I'm friends with, I'm not saying every single one is perfect, far from it. I'm saying that they are putting their lives on the line for people to steal a couple of trainers or a dust bin. Im not saying everybody should grass up anybody you know who may be involved in anything illegal or abide by the law with everything you do in life. Far from it. Most of them know some of the things I get up to, and have no problems with this.

Why do people that work at McDonalds have to be people who ''genuinely struggle to get by on a day to day basis''. You saying that everybody that works there can do no better and is struggling through life? What has getting paid overtime go to do with anything? So you'll be fine to be forced to work aslong as youre getting paid for the privilidge?

Sorry for linking things together but at no point did I say they dont get paid enough. I personally havent ever heard any of my mates say they dont get paid enough. Infact they feel greatful for a) having a job and b) having a job that does pay well. You are just tarnishing a whole group of people based on the opinions and actions of a small group. Yes, that is done by other people against people in a similar position/social background to the people who are doing the looting and rioting, which is wrong. I personally am on condeming the people doing these things.

It may sound like Im sucking up to the police, and fine, if thats what you think I'm doing that what I'm doing, but personally Im just sticking up for my friends.
