Apple is the most selfish company on this earth.
They're the richest company too (worth the most) and when my fucking ipod breaks, they make up lies so I'll buy a new one. Fuck that.

Exactly.
My iPod got "water damaged", even if I always kept it in my bag, which never got wet before the ipod broke. It was working as it should have worked, then one day BAAAM stopped working. Gave it to the applestore, where they scanned it for waterdamage and guess what? No fluid at all in the ipod. They sent it to some center in an other city where they fix them. The people at the center later called me and said it was water damaged and that I had to pay the full price of a new ipod to get it fixed, they actually thought I was going to pay the same price two times for one tiny ipod, when they're lying about what's wrong with it.. Too bad ipods are so nice to use, 'cause I'm not buying one again.

Yup, whenever they risk having to do some honest work for their customers they just plead "water damage". I had an ipod classic back when I was 15 and they fucked me over not replacing it when it just stopped working for no reason. I switched to zunes for a while, but I bought an ITouch recently :? They're just so damn convenient.

Hmm.. It's a shame they're products (mainly iPod) are so comfortable to use, when they are such assholes as a company!
I had the newest nano. I'm trying to find something in the similar pricerange, which is still small and has pretty much storage to use, but it seems impossible.

Recorded a perfect mix yesterday. Then thought I would listen back to it today and it turned out it had not been recording through my USB cable but instead through the crappy laptop sound recorder so that was ruined. Now trying to do the mix today I keep making loads of shitty mistakes.
Looking forward to posting in the happy thread once i am successful

I've had an LG Viewty for 3 years now. I've dropped it in puddles, in the bath twice, down the stairs multiple times, and I've dropped it a countless number of times on to hard surfaces from pretty big heights. After all this time there's absolutely nothing wrong with it, despite some mild damage to the shell. The touch screen got a bit dodgy whilst in the message menu for about a month, but that somehow fixed itself. I also only pay £10 a month for 600 minutes, unlimited texts and shit loads of internet (although I never use that). Fuck apple, my phone is a terminator. All I've replaced is the battery.

once they send it to the repair place, they open it up, and on the inside there's these things that change color in the presence of moisture. so either it got wet and you didn't notice, or you just had it long enough for the moisture in the air to gradually change the color.

apple aren't total dicks, they've replaced a lot of my stuff even in cases where it wasn't really their responsibility to do so. if someone's giving you a hard time, it's that person or store, but don't just call them the "most selfish company on this earth", because there's really far worse. and they're not the richest either, so stop pulling shit out of your ass.

I've been such a fucking idiot. I really should have been more aware to be honest. I bought the phone almost exactly a year ago, and the dude in o2 said it's best to insure it with your bank. I did, thinking it'd be the smart thing to do. Recently, the iPhone has been playing up, I took it to T in the Park for the day and it was pissing down. Now when I try and charge it, nothing happens. I can only assume it IS water damage. The (same) guy at o2 when I went in 2 weeks ago said the strip of copper in the phone goes green (i think) when water contacts it and that there is nothing o2 or apple can do.

I go to the bank, expecting to be given appropriate credit to go replace it there and then. No. I'm put on the phone to some motor mouth speaking at 100 miles an hour making no sense so I'm just left saying "Yes, yes ok mhmm". I get a letter in the post asking me to fill in details about the phone, send it off with £30 payment included. Fucking next level bullshit. I'm stuck with the contract for another year too.

If I do send the phone off (very likely), can I cancel the insurance payments?
Also, I assume the contract cancellation fees aren't even worth it, are they?

i think i can still help, especially if your phone is still within the warranty period.

a couple years ago, i killed my first iphone with water (walked into a lake with it in my swim trunks), but i managed to get a replacement for free.

there's a tiny sticker in the headphone jack that turns pink on one half when it gets wet. also, iphone 4s have another sticker like this in the dock. you can go online (i got mine off ebay) and buy these stickers for less than $10. just search "iphone water damage indicator". i put a little bit of blu-tack on the end of a thin toothpick, put the sticker on, and then placed it on top of the old sticker inside the headphone jack. i haven't done this with the iphone 4 so i dont know how to replace the dock indicator, but it can't be too difficult.

Image

then just walk into the store (if you've already shown it to them and they've diagnosed it as water damage, then go to a different store), and tell them that in the last few weeks the battery life started to get shorter and shorter and now it doesn't even charge at all. they'll take a quick peek at the indicators with a magnifying glass, and they'll rule out water damage and replace it under warranty.

if your phone is out of warranty, then you can still send it in to the bank, but i'd still replace the stickers so that when they inspect it, they dont see that it was water damaged.

It's the most selfish company I've ever encountered anyway.
And they reached the top of the stockmarket yesterday I think, it was in todays paper.

Phigure, I have an iPhone 4 but I honestly cannot see what the o2 dude was pointing at - the colour of the copper/whatever in the dock. I looked on ebay and found these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WATER-DAMAGE- ... 985wt_1139

those are the ones for the inside of the headphone jack. the ones inside the dock are rectangular. i'd take a look at the ones on your iphone and see if both or just one have been triggered. if it's only one, then you don't need to waste your money on a second one. but if it's even a little bit discolored, i'd buy it just to be safe.

the copper strip he was talking about is located inside the guts of the iphone. i actually doubt the bank is gonna bother to open it and check that if the indicators on the outside are perfectly fine.

Wait, are Apple supposed to replace your iPod if it breaks for 'no reason'? Or is it only within the years warranty? ..... How long is the warranty?
